Not The Greatest

Is the United States the greatest country in the world?  No, but it used to be.  Today, we are the best when it comes to military power and political influence, but both of those rankings are going down.
In 2015 U.S. News conducted a world wide survey which revealed that Germany ranks number one in overall ratings.  There is more opportunity there and the people are more content.  The U.S. didn’t even finish first in education.

So, what happened?  If one stops and takes an objective look at what has happened to this country in the past fifty years or so, one will discover that the American ideal shifted from “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country,” to “what can government do for me?”  Is there any national pride and unity left?  I suppose when you have a “first lady” that states the election of her husband was the first time she had any pride in this country, sums up what we see on TV everyday.

We are a nation divided by political correctness and hypocrisy that make us the laughing stock of the rest of the world.  No longer are we viewed as a beacon of hope and freedom with a firm foundation based up on Judeo-Christian beliefs and practices.  And, we’ve abandoned the intent of the Constitution and made it a living document which it is not.

Somewhere along the line, politicians recognized that they could have more control if enough people were led to believe that a segment of society should be guilty for injustices done by ancestors and therefore be ashamed and pay dearly.  And, in doing so, they have kept a part of the country in abject slavery, dependent upon the government, robbing them of their full potential to pursue life, liberty and happiness.

Right and wrong are no longer a consideration.  We have become a country sailing a ship with no rudder.  Power and money rule, with power being the means to collect the money.

Can America be the greatest nation in the world again.  Yes.  But it will take a national spirit of unity with a stubborn dedication that will stand against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

It’s up to you.  And, me.

Finally

You may not have heard this tidbit of news.  It seems that illegal immigrant Efrain Delgado-Rosales has finally been sent to prison after being arrested 24 times for smuggling people into the United States.  His first arrest was in 1999.  But, this past November, he was arrested and sentenced to five years in prison.

In all the arrests before November, he was processed without being charged and deported back to Mexico.  Basically he was just questioned and let go.  This story sounds familiar.

Think Hillary?

Exactly The Same

Every now an then I get an email that contains something worth repeating.  Such is the case of the following:

“When you are dead, you don’t know you are dead.  It’s difficult only for the others.

It’s the same when you are stupid.”

Which Way To Go

When one gets older, one starts to think about stuff that young people don’t give a thought to.  Like funeral costs.  It cost a lot of money to die.  The average funeral cost about $8,000 to $10,000.  You can get a nice fishing boat for that much money.

Decisions have to be made before you take that last journey.  For instance, burial or cremation?  Cremation is a lot cheaper.  I frequently see signs for cremation, that are less than $1,000.  That means you would have some change from that $10,000 life insurance policy.  With cremation, you don’t have to get a new suit to go away in, there is no problem with where to plant you, and you don’t have to have six friends to carry you.  I have six friends, but at our age, it’s hard enough to carry yourself.

And, with cremation, you become mobile.  None of that sitting in a hole in the ground.  Your little box or urn can sit on the mantle one day and under the bed if your spouse gets married again.  Heck, you might even get taken to a family reunion once in awhile.

Yep, you have to weigh all the options and expense.  But, some people can’t stand the thought of cremation, so it is not for everyone.  Personally, I have my final plans all laid out, for me.

My ace number one daughter says she is going to weight me down and drop me in the lake since I like to fish so much.

That puts a whole new meaning to, “I think I’m getting a bite.”

How I Know

A grumpy old man (me) answer to the question, “How can you be so sure that God is real?”

The answer is simple, “I know because I talk to Him several times everyday.  And, if I shut up, which is not often, He talks to me.”

Hope this clears this up for you.

PAC Needed

I’ve had all I can stand with the ongoing political shenanigans.  It is time for a “PAC” - Political Action Correction.  This is what I propose:

Trump and Cruz need to be sent to “time out” until the day before the election for behavior unbecoming to two sixth grade boys.

Hillary needs to be sent to “time in” for life, without parole for the crimes we know she has committed.

And, Bernie needs to be sent to stand in line for eternity, waiting for “free stuff.”

Questions About Commercials

With all the millions of commercials we see on TV, hear on radio or read in a newspaper, there is reasonable cause to ask some questions.

First, is there ever a day when mattresses are not on sale?  Shouldn’t the real cost be below the sale price?

Then there’s BOGO - buy one, get one.  Why would I need two?  Why not just give me 50% off on one?

But wait!  If you order now, you get a second one for free.  All you pay is shipping and handling.  Just how much is shipping and handling?  Is it cheaper to buy two, if you need two, and order them separately?

How about, “going out of business sales,” that last for years.  Why didn’t they just go out of business before they opened up?  That would have saved a lot of money on advertising.

Last but not least, do people really “love” their laxative?  There’s something wrong with those people.

Sometimes I hate being left brain and logical.

Stupid Media

The Dallas Morning News printed a story by Mitchell Schnurman titled “Man Up PUC and Approve the Oncor Deal.”  It was about how the Public Utility Commission should rule in favor of selling the utility to Dallas’ Ray Hunt family.  When I read the story, I promptly sent an email to Mr. Schnurman to tell him that he should ‘man up’ and get a few facts before writing a story for the Business Section of the paper.

There were so many facts that were omitted in formulating an opinion that only demonstrated how much the writer does not know.

It is no wonder why newspaper subscriptions keep falling.  Everything in them is a subjective slanted opinion that in no way reports factual information.  That is the stupid media way.

And, then they wonder why fewer and fewer people want to buy their paper.

Chicken Little

In one form or another, the story of “Chicken Little” is about a little chicken that runs around shouting, the sky is falling or other pending doom.  If that doesn’t sound like a politician, what does?  Politicians, “scientist” that want to be important, and lap dog media are now playing “Chicken Little” about global warming or climate change.  Is there ‘climate change?’  Absolutely.  The climate has been changing for centuries.  And, it will continue to change, but not because of mankind.
There were concerns in the 1920s and 1930s about global cooling.  Some folks said we were headed for another ice age.  Those same predictions came around again in the 40s and 50s.  It was thought that setting off atom bombs could easily hasten a nuclear ice age.  Things were quite for awhile, until the 1970s.  Then the propaganda started again.

Now, since very few believed the ice age theory, we are being told that global warming is coming.  Hey, when you are a politician without a crisis, you create one.  There is always some science to support you and the media will spread the word so long as you pat them on the head and invite them to gala events.

There is a movement to arrest company executives for not believing.  They will have to be fined and even imprisoned if they don’t get onboard. If this sounds insane, think about it.  Government has been telling you what to think and do for a long time.  In some countries, it’s called communism.

There’s another old story about how to cook a frog.  Put the frog in a pan of cold water and then turn the heat on slowly until the water boils and kills it.  A frog will leap from the pan if the water is hot when you put it in, but slow change is perfectly acceptable, until it’s too late.

It’s taken nearly 100 years for the ice age idea to go away inspite of all the cheeping and clucking.

It's time to put the global warming bunch out to pasture.

Even a grumpy old man recognizes bull stuff when he sees it.

Protesters

Protesters at events where Donald Trump is the central figure seem to be getting “push back.”  The media is playing up the occurrences for all they can.  They don’t want to miss an opportunity to motivate others to protest against Trump or anyone that doesn’t agree with their liberal thinking.

From the coverage I have seen, it seems that older men are the ones standing up to the protesters.  This does not surprise me.  The poor old guys grew up in a time when people didn’t have to put up with such actions.  If you have an event where someone, or more, wants to upset the gathering, then they should be shown the exit door.  Of course said protester(s) should be gently removed, even if you have to gently drag them out by the feet.

This may sound a bit barbaric, but it works.

Every time.

Sacrilege

Over the years with many moves, I have adopted a couple of “must haves” for a new location.  First and foremost, there must be a good barbeque place - notice I did not say restaurant.  Remember, ribs are the most important food group.

When we moved to East Texas, I expected to find some really good barbeque.  Boy, was I disappointed.  I’m still searching, after three years.  There was one place that wasn’t bad, but it sold out and the new owner must have learned to barbeque from some website.

Yes, it is not easy to cook a brisket correctly.  Think low heat, good smoke and 12 to 15 hours.  But, the place that wasn’t bad, actually pressure cooks the meat and then puts it in a pit for a few minutes.  Sure it makes the meat tender - mushy.  Brisket is not supposed to be mushy.

There’s only one word for cooking like that.  Sacrilege.

Not even the Pope, a head Iman, a Baptist preacher and two Pentecostal TV evangelist can convince God to forgive that.

Rule #32

The official grumpy old man rules of life number 32 states, “look all four ways, before you make a move.”  Did you get that?  Look forward, backward, up and down.

It amazes me that most people don’t even look forward.  And, humans just don’t look up.  Animals do, because they are more cautious than people.  There is so much that can literally hurt one, but most never know what hit them when they end up injured.

One of the first rules of surviving is look before you move.  It doesn’t matter what situation you are in.  Survival experts teach students to look for the best option before you take any action.  Surviving is the goal, isn’t it?

You can ignore this rule, like everyone else, or you can use it to maintain control.  At least look up once in awhile.

The sky may be falling and you don’t want to be the last to know.

St. Patty's Day

Saint Patrick’s Day is a cultural and religious celebration held on March 17 to celebrate the death of St. Patrick, AD 385-461.  Patrick’s Day is celebrated in more countries than any other national celebration.  I’m guessing that’s because of the Irish whiskey.  Celebrations vary from parades, social gatherings and church services.  And, everyone is supposed to wear green.  If you don’t someone might pinch you.

There a numerous stories and traditions about Patrick.  It is said that he drove all the snakes out of Ireland.  But, this was an allegory about the druids, non Christian priests.  One sure thing is that he was a missionary in Ireland.

With all the celebrating, drinking Irish whiskey or green beer with a shamrock in the bottom of the glass, there are many legends to ponder about Patrick.

But, there is one thing that everyone should know.

Saint Patrick was not Irish.

Please Explain

Grumpy old men are exactly that, grumpy and old.  And, we often don’t understand things like all the buttons on a TV remote control, smart phones, and women.  But, the one major “don’t understand” I have is all the support for Hillary.  It is beyond my comprehension that anyone would want her to be President.

This woman couldn’t pass a background check to work at a burger joint.  She has been charged with more crimes than some people on death row.  Yet, she runs around the country and people lap up what she says.  Case in point is when she stated recently that under her watch no one was killed in Libya. The family of Ambassador Christopher Stevens will certainly not agree.  For, those that may not know, Benghazi is in Libya.  I guess that this is just another case of Hillary’s “I have no memory of that.”

Yet, she is apparently on her way to the Democratic nomination.  Pardon, me, but I do not understand.
Will someone let me know when negligence, dereliction of duty, and blatant disregard for law, qualify one for the highest office in our land.

I’m waiting.

Home Security System

If you have ever wanted a 24/7 home security system, but just could not justify the expense, there is an almost free alternative.  There is a one time cost of less than $20.

This system offers not only 24/7, 365 days per year security, it has one important advantage that other systems can’t match.  Should you have an intruder, unlike notifying the police, which can take several minutes to get a response, there will be onsite monitoring.  That’s correct, your house will be under constant surveillance.  It is probable that even your neighbors will join in to watch what goes on at your house.  And, they will most likely arm themselves, just in case there is an event.

All you have to do is go online and order an ISIS flag.  Put it on your flag pole or just tack it up to the front of your house.  Homeland security, the FBI, CIA, local sheriff and police departments and who knows who else will keep an eye on your place.  Not a bad deal for almost free.

The only down side is all those black SUVs and helicopters hanging around all the time.

Be careful and don’t make any sudden moves toward them.

Fact Or Fiction

Straight from the cesspool, also known as the internet, is a headline that a Ted Cruz sex scandal may be looming.  So the story goes, Cruz and his former consultant during his run for the Senate may have had an affair.  The consultant is now the national spokeswoman for the Trump campaign.  Further details as they are concocted or verified.

People love to report sex scandals whether they are real or not.  After all, money and sex are what politics are made of.

However, these kinds of reports are very insensitive toward Hillary.  After Bill’s success with his philandering, it is mean spirited not to at least have a rumor about her and an affair.

Here’s a silly question, “Any takers?”

Who would believe it?

My financial controller received a jury duty summons last week.  I noticed the exemptions one may use to be excused and discovered one that caused me to wonder.  The first reason on the list for exemptions is: Age 70 or older.  It was followed by two choices: ___Permanent ___ Non Permanent.
Permanent seems to be the best choice.
No more birthdays.

That Time Again

Daylight saving (“savings” for those that don’t know better) time is here again.  And, again I have the same stupid question, “Why?”  As old time singer Tennessee Ernie Ford said, “Daylight saving time is like cutting a foot off one end of a blanket and sewing it on the other to make it longer.”

This are some interesting facts about DST.  Believe it or not, Benjamin Franklin did not invent DST.  He did jokingly suggest it, but it was first used in Canada in 1908.  Germany was the first country to use it in 1916, to save energy used for lighting during WWI.  “Fast Time,” as it was called, was implemented in the U.S. by Woodrow Wilson in 1918, for the same reason Germany had adopted DST.

In 1942, “War Time” was in force from February 9, 1942 to September 30, 1945.  Another government idea that never ends.  Over the years, it has been on again and off again and not all states participate.  Arizona, Alaska and Hawaii still don’t see a need for it.

Now that you know all that, you need to know this.  There is no conclusive evidence that DST saves any energy.  In fact, it may actually add to energy use.  “Why do we do it then?”, you ask.  Because government came up with another solution to a problem that does not exist.

As usual, I want to speak on behalf of all the roosters in all the countries that have adopted DST.  Since animals have more rights than humans, it is time we stop the psychological abuse of roosters.  Roosters don’t have watches and have to stay on standard time.  It is devastating to them when they get up to announce the crack of dawn and everybody is already up.  It would not surprise me that most, if not all roosters may have to have psychological evaluations and may be put on depression medications.

Let’s stand up for the roosters.  Demand DST be stopped.

There’s nothing sadder than a rooster with DSTSD - Daylight Saving Time Stress Disorder.

Believe It Or Else

There is a movement to force “global warming, aka, climate change,” or else.  The “ecofascists” are now attempting to get legal action against anyone that does not believe.  Attorney General Loretta Lynch has stated that the subject has been discussed.  How does that make you feel?

They're Doing It Again

The Republicans are “debating” again tonight, March 10 at 8 p.m. EST.  It may be over by the time some of you read this, but not to worry, the talking heads will tell you everything that was said and not said.

It is not likely that anything of substance will come from the debate, because there doesn’t seem to be any substance in any of the previous debates.  I do wish that just once, there would be serious focus on the economy, illegal immigration, English as the national language, strict adherence to the Constitution and how some of the present and past politicians are going to be punished for crimes they have gotten away with.  Rest assured, that will not happen.

Just launching a full investigation with intent of prosecution if found guilty of crimes would result in a lot of folks resigning and leaving the country.

That would be a positive.

Getting rid of corrupt politicians and all the celebrities that say they will leave would make it a nicer place to live.

What Did You See?

Have you ever seen a sunrise?  I’m talking about when you sat and watched the dawn of a new day.  How about a sunset that dissolves into darkness?  Have you ever stopped to take in the beauty of a rainbow after a rainy spring day?  Finally, have you ever black ominous clouds build and boil?  What did you see?

You have seen just a little bit of God.

You might want to think about that.

Wisdom

It is best to see wisdom in many places because there are so many things one needs to be wise about.  That is why I read a lot about a lot of subjects and try to pick out tidbits of wisdom where I find them.

Right now a little wisdom about the race for president is something that everyone could use.  Looking at the candidates on both sides, I have discovered, in my search for wisdom, one idea that just makes sense.

“I’m starting to wonder how bad four years with no president would be.”

Maxine - one of my favorite places to look for wisdom.

Spring Again

It has been said that in the spring time a young man’s thoughts turn to love.  Well, an old man’s thoughts turn to weeds.  Weeds, weeds, weeds.  They are everywhere.  When you add in the tree pollens and all the other things that are out to kill me, weeds are the final blow.  Don’t believe me, just hop on the riding mower and take a few deep breaths.  And, I have tried wearing a mask.  The little pollens get around it.

As usual I try to start early and control the weeds.  And, I expect the same result this time.  More weeds.  However, this time I mixed up my own concoction.  It’s simple, just go to the big box store and get one of everything on the shelf for killing weeds and mix them all together.  Use water only if there is any room left in the pump up sprayer.

On second thought, don’t use water, just add some more of something.

Miracle Drug Needed

What this country needs is a miracle drug, for the long time malady affecting the majority of the citizens.  The sickness is devastating with symptoms like loss of brain function (ability to thing), believing illusions, placing trust in scam artist, nausea, dizziness, headaches, fear, anger, frustration and the list goes on and on.  It has and continues to destroy the very foundation of what was once, the greatest nation on earth.

Surely medical research can drop working on cancer, heart failure, and all of the other horrible causes of death to individuals, to launch an all out attack on this single disease that can destroy us all.

We need a cure now.

GOP

I don’t know which is funnier, Donald Trump or the Republican Party.  Recent history reveals that the first thing the GOP does when they win, is shoot themselves in the foot.  That’s what they are doing now with the “Donald.”  They don’t know what to do with him, so they attack him.  The end result is he becomes more popular.

Had they united against Obama the way they are with Trump, Obama would never have gotten elected.  Maybe that’s the intent for Trump.

Note to GOP: The objective is not to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory.

The King's English

Daniel, he is my neighbor.  Me and him like to garden. Both he and me like Texases plants.

If any of these sentences sound correct to you, you can get a job in TV, especially TV news.

Mona Sullivan and Hortense Huey would have slapped someone across the head for such primitive use of the English language.  Mona and Hortense were a couple of English teachers I had in high school.

If one had used such language in Nell Blackwell’s sixth grade class, she would have killed you and you would never have made it to high school.

What ever happened to EDUCATION?
