Don't Talk

Sometime I just don’t want to talk about anything. Such is the case today. I could go off on politics, but surely we’ve all had enough of that for at least today. It would be tiring to talk about the media again. I think everyone understands that a free press is necessary for a democracy, but a biased media can cause more chaos than you can imagine. And, that ends that topic.

There’s always the Oscars to talk about, but who really cares? Not me. Then, there’s the economy, but we need to stop talking and go to work.

I’m just not in the mood to talk. But, I do have a question. "What is the price of eggs in China?"

That’s something that might be worth talking about.

Surprise Surprise

Okay folks, the 89th Oscars are over. It’s the event where the all knowing elites of the elites are selected by an elite group to let the peons know what is really the best in movies. P.S., you have no idea what the best movie is until you are told.

Well this year, the winner really was a surprise. First, La La Land was announced and everybody did the huggies and kisses, but then Moonlight was announced as the real wiener. Yes, I meant to say wiener. For shame, for shame, the bow down in their presence gods made a mistake.

I think there is an in-depth investigation underway.

The Russians have hacked the Oscars.

New Computer

I have discovered technology, it is changing. That means I am in the market for a new desktop computer. Don’t laugh, if things keep going the way they are now, a desktop and monitor will be smaller than a smart phone, and you don’t have to charge the battery every few minutes.

Back to my story. My old computer is about 5 to 6 years old and works fine, but I like to update every so often. The problem I have is that I don’t like Windows 10 and it may not allow me to run some of the software I have now. I’m old and old software suits me just fine. While I like my Office 2003, it does have trouble with some of the new versions, especially in Excel. I don’t use Word, so I don’t care about it. I discovered a long time ago that anything that you can do in Word Perfect with one click, you can do the same thing in Word with 100 clicks.

So far I have discovered that you get less bang for the buck on new hardware and a decent software package now has to be leased. Not good for grumpy old men.

I might mention for anyone that uses Windows 10, you may want to check your privacy features. Unless you want Microsoft to know a lot about your personal life, it is time to look into disabling a lot of what they call express set up.

Maybe I just need to get an old typewriter and some nice stationery.

I already have a calculator.

Meanwhile, Back At The Ranch

One of the greatest lies ever told is, "I’m from the government and I’m here to help you." It doesn’t matter which party is in office, they all have ideas on how they can run our lives. I don’t know about you, but I have enough to worry about and take care of that I really don’t care about what’s going on at my neighbors so long as they aren’t disturbing me or breaking basic laws of society.

The problem with governments is that they want to know what you are doing and they want you to either stop or do it the way they tell you. And, all of their "help" is disguised as doing what’s good for the people. If all politicians had to live in the real world, the average working souls trying to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, they wouldn’t have all the stupid ideas presented to us.

It should be a law that elected officials should be required by law to find out what’s going on in the real world. Instead of listening to a few friends, family, special interest groups or lobbyist, everyday they should be trying to find out what’s really going on back at the ranch.

If the barn ain’t on fire, we probably don’t need any help.

Leakers

The President is upset about leaks in the government. I’m not talking about faucet leaks, although they probably have those too. There are apparently some folks that just can’t keep their mouths shut when it comes to trying to be important to the media or someone?

The problem with folks blabbing is they often don’t know the whole story or they don’t tell the whole story. Before you say it, I will, "this has been going on since there was a government." But, with Trump, it seems there is more than usual, adding just one more to the list of those out to destroy his administration. Democrats do not like to lose. If they can’t have it their way, they will burn it down. Literally if necessary to get whatever it is they want.

Mr. Trump is not the kind of man that will put up with this behavior. And, there are ways to find out who is leaking what to whom. But, when that happens, and they are exposed, you ain’t heard nothing yet from the media. It will be no holds barred.

I don’t know about you, but my respect for President Trump has increased since he took office. I had my doubts about what he could do, but was willing to give him a chance. Now, I am impressed that he keeps on course, trying to fulfill his campaign promises in spite of all the attack and obstacles.

Boy, will I be glad when he gets the swamp drained.

The leakers are at the bottom.

The Future

In my many years I have only known one person that has gone to a "fortune teller." There may have been others, but they sure didn’t tell me. The man that did was just a teenager at the time, but he was told that he would be rich before he was 25 and dead by the time he was 30. Guess what? Neither happened.

The point is there is no one that can foresee the future, but what if you could. If it were possible for you to take a pill or get struck by lightning or something that suddenly gave you the ability to see what lies ahead, would you do it? I will admit that it might be fun for a short time. And, you could certainly become rich if you were so inclined. But, could you live with what you would see?

In the beginning, no one would believe you, and when you finally gained credibility, you would be overwhelmed with request from individuals wanting to know about their lives. There would be enough burdens just to know what would happen to you and your family and friends. To see the future of a country would be devastating.

Did you notice, that I did not mention that you would be able to change the future, just see it.

I don’t want to know my future. I have enough trouble getting out of bed now.

Car Deals

Costco and Sams Club can make you a deal on a new vehicle. Walmart is supposed to begin selling cars in April. I’m just not ready to buy a car from these businesses. I already spend enough money with them.

My first question is where do you pickup your new car, in automotive or grocery. If you have a problem with your new car, who is going to fix it. I sure hope it’s not the cashiers at Walmart. There’s only two of them for the whole chain, and they really don’t care if your car is broken.

Because these folks also offer credit cards, I wonder if you can charge your new car on your card. If so, at what interest rate and do you get points.

But, the biggest question I have is how are you ever going to get a new car through the cashiers?

The lanes are too narrow.

As everyone I know does, I get a lot of jokes in my email. And, now and then, I get some serious stuff. Today, my friend, "Shoobie" sent one that is both. It is funny, but also contained a horrifying thought.

"During the course of administration, and in order to disturb it, the artillery of the press has been leveled against us, charged with whatsoever its licentiousness could devise or dare." —Thomas Jefferson (1805)

President Trump, it seems the press has been after presidents for some time. The difference is that they have all united against you. Add in all the professional protesters (rioters) and you need to be prepared for anything and everything.

Remember, soldiers run toward the sound of battle.

Presidents Day

George Washington’s birthday, February 22nd, was recognized to honor him for his service to the country. In 1879 it was officially recognized as a holiday in Washington D.C. and expanded to all federal offices in 1885. The actual day was abandoned under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act and grew to include all presidents. Thus, you have no mail service on Monday, February 20, 2017. That’s enough history.

My little mind wonders what old George would have thought about the country today. Would he be as willing to suffer near starvation, unbearable cold, and overwhelming odds to create a nation like we have?

Somehow I think that he and all those that suffered and died, would be disappointed. They would look and see so many things that are far from what they envisioned and would be disgusted.

Don’t worry George. Rest in peace if you can. You are all but forgotten today anyway.

But should you be reincarnated, you can get a deal at a mattress sale.

A Whopper

I read a report this week about how fast food prices will go up if the owners are forced to pay $15 per hour. A Whopper meal will go from about $6.50 to $9.00. And, all you snowflakes better get daddy a part time job because a Grande Mohca Frappuccino will go up about $1.80. You may have to cut down on consumption - heaven forbid.

As I have explained before, minimum wage can go to $100 per hour and the same complaints will keep on coming. It’s basic economics. Whatever it cost to do business raises the cost of the product or service, and consumer raises across the board because workers have to keep up with inflation. Keep raising prices and before long inflation destroys an economy. It’s then when no one can afford anything and jobs go away.

I’m not going to bore you with the facts, but fast food workers have always been entry level jobs where young people can find out what it means to have a job and responsibilities.

Will the minimum wage become law? Who knows. If it does, there will be a great reduction in fast food jobs.

A Whopper is a great meal, but not $9 great.

Just who in America is responsible? Apparently very few, because I hear and see ads often promoting how you can get rid of your debts and, avoid IRS taxes and penalties. Settle for pennies on the dollar or even pay nothing. In other words, you are not responsible for being irresponsible.

You are not responsible for pregnancy - either party. Just get an abortion. And, if abortion is murder, which it is, then are not even responsible for murder.

If you choose to riot in the streets, by destroying property, looting, attacking police and causing chaos and harm, you are not responsible. Should you be inconvenienced by being arrested, you will be found to be not responsible.

Enter this country illegally and commit a felony and you are not responsible. Someone will protest, and or riot, on your behalf and you can sue the government or somebody.

If you are a celebrity, you can actually commit treason, threaten the President, or whatever you want and you are not responsible. The self worshiping elite have special privileges when it comes to irresponsibility.

I’m guessing the devil made them do it.

Drain The Swamp

There is an old adage that goes something like this, "It’s hard to remember that the objective is to drain the swamp when you’re up to your ass in alligators." I would suspect that Mr. Trump feels that way about now. And, to make matters worse, the demagogues are bringing in more alligators by the truck load.

If you can’t give Trump credit for anything else, give him credit for holding on to his promises as best he can under the conditions.

Divided

"United we stand, divided we fall," goes the old adage. As evidenced by the last election, we are not a united country. If we were, everyone would accept the outcome and get on with business. Unfortunately, we’ve had eight years of division that is going to be difficult, if impossible, to get corrected. Before you think it was or was not Obama’s fault entirely, it was not. However, he was the driving force and still is today. Just look at his web site.

When the president speaks out and takes actions to turn race against race, thugs against police and religions against religions, the result can’t help but be divisive. But, there are support and driving forces that did as much as he did. Many of them are still in office and their support is growing in the private sector and on the state levels. When a city ignores laws on immigration, private business ignores laws on common decency and even the NFL threatens states that do not comply with their political views, we have resounding evidence that we are a nation divided. Just so you will know, Governor Abbott of Texas has basically told the NFL to do what they threaten to do about a "bathroom" bill in current legislation, but they will not control the State of Texas.

Over 100 years ago, there was a civil war fought over what should never have existed - slavery. Today, the division is just as real. Philosophical politics that seek to divide and destroy are simmering. Unless you are dead, you have to see what can happen.

I don’t know what Trump can or cannot do, but I do believe that he is trying to unite the nation. No, I don’t agree with everything he does, but am willing to give him the benefit of doubt and try.

It’s certain that what we’ve had has only been destructive.

Ism's

There’s capitalism, socialism, Marxism, fascism, communism, and who knows what other ism’s. The strange thing about them all is that apparently no one understands what any of them truly mean. With all the protest against Trump, I think I’ve seen signs with all of them.

Reality is that there is only one system that works really well most of the time and it is seems to be the one that the protesters really hate - capitalism. That could be because it involves work. Little do they know that the others involve work, just no pay.

In an effort to simplify the confusion, I would like to offer a simple explanation of communism, which contains elements of all of them but capitalism.

A communist is someone that has nothing and wants to share it with everybody.

Perhaps no one has noticed, but it appears there are few holidays for men - like none. Valentines day is quickly approaching and it is another excuse for women to cash in. Flowers, candy, dinner and just a few of the perks for being female.

I would like to suggest that we have a men day. Where men get gifts like fishing tackle, a dinner of ribs and perhaps even a designated nap time on the couch.

If necessary, we could just use Groundhog Day and add to it. So long as the ground hog gives us guys bacon and ribs.

Then who would care if we had six more weeks of winter.

Condone

Why are there so many protest and riots in this country today? Because the majority condones the behavior. "What?," you say. "I don’t condone it." Yes, you do.

The very definition of condone is to accept and allow behavior that is morally wrong or offensive to continue. Even illegal activity is condoned today. In other words, if you condone something, you allow it, approve of it, or at least can live with it.

Plato, a philosopher in Classical Greece, the founder of the Academy in Athens which was the first institution of higher learning in the western world, said, "your silence gives consent."

News Flash

After serious observation and careful analysis, I have concluded that the reason Donald Trump won, and a bunch of Republican members of Congress is obvious. The Clinton machine, DNC and the media were ruthless in attacking Trump, as they still are. Even the "Potty President" won’t give up and accept they lost.

If they don’t give in, they will continue to lose seats in the House and Senate. This would be a good thing because apparently these folks don’t have enough sense to try to do what’s best for America and not the Democratic party.

I don’t see the media as ever being able to recover credibility. There is not a single news source that I have any faith in and certainly any trust. Unless, one has a burning need to know what some celebrity is doing.

The fate of our nation is uncertain. We are no longer a nation of law. Unless that changes, I suppose it really won’t matter who won.

We all will lose.

It's True

My ace number one daughter has worked from home for years, but recently she decided to rent an office space. This means that she has to leave the dogs at home - alone. Well, not exactly alone, because I go over to her house and let the dogs out to "do their business."

Because she is away, she leaves the TV on to give the dogs some company, I suppose. For the past few days, the "View" is on in the morning when I check on the dogs. I don’t know why she doesn’t tune to Animal Planet or some program where the main characters are covered in hair or feathers.  Any way, the dogs must watch this program and follow up with 'soap operas.'  Warning: Daytime TV can ruin your mind.

Both dogs are male. One is almost blind and has other health issues, so he is excused from behaving like a "real" dog. Male dogs hike their leg when relieving their bladder. Well, until today. After watching the "View" for less than two weeks, the little dog now squats like a girl. The power of liberal television. I promise, it’s true.

I’m going to switch the channel to "Gunsmoke" reruns.

Maybe Marshal Dillon can get him back on track.

Super Bowl LI

By the time you read this Super Bowl 51 will probably be over. The National religion face off between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons will captivate millions, if not billions. Except me. I don’t watch football or any other sport on TV. While I do enjoy a good game at the stadium, $25,000 tickets are a little out of my budget for entertainment - like $24,000 and that’s for more than a year.

I just want to say that for the most part, football is a game enjoyed by so many people has potential to go away. Think about it. Players refusing to stand for the National Anthem, rivalries that cause civil unrest in some cases, and just the cost to attend a game, not to mention the politics and money that rule the game.

Can you imagine no football? It consumes high schools and colleges. Even the little ones get into peewee football. Reality is that under "nanny" rule, football is doomed. You could get hurt and that is not acceptable. Perhaps no contact football would work. You know, the kind where players all get a participation trophy.

I wonder if Bud would still be a sponsor.

Probably not, it might involve animal cruelty.

Pick And Choose

I’ve come to realized that somewhere we have the right to pick and choose what laws we want to obey. A simple example is the protest (riots) on college campuses and at airports. Old silly me thought that attacking police, burning buildings and such were criminal offenses, for which you could be arrested and sentenced to jail for a long time. Looks like that is not the case. At least for some people.

Because liberals are allowed to break laws, it has to be okay for the rest of us. I’m not sure which laws can be broken, but I am making my own list of laws that I do not like. Hey, I’m just following the lead of some legislators, justices and law enforcement.

If lawmakers don’t have to abide by laws they don’t like, it could lead to a lawless country for sure. It has happened before. The part that I have trouble understanding is who benefits and what is to be the reward for those individuals that create turmoil to achieve anarchy.

Anyway, I am working on my list of laws not to obey and at the top of my list is spitting on the sidewalk. Since I don’t chew tobacco or dip snuff, so, I will substitute Tootsie Roll candy to get that dark brown spatter effect.

I’m going to like lawlessness.

Abe Said

Abe Lincoln is highly respected by most people in this country. He was a country boy that became President and faced perhaps the greatest challenge America has ever faced. It cost him his life. Of course everyone knows or should know that Lincoln was killed by an actor - a self important radical that wanted his way. Sound familiar?

Honest Abe is often quoted, and I want to share three because they seem appropriate right now.

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."

"You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today."

"I do the very best I know how-the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me won't amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right would make no difference."

I would never compare Trump to Lincoln, but I do wonder if he has similar thoughts.

Barf Bags

The hypocrisy of the Democrats and their useful idiots media is driving me to demand that they should provide barf bags to everyone that has the ability to look at facts and think for themselves.

A simple example is Trump’s order on vetting immigrants from selected countries. That list of countries was compiled by the Obama administration. Let’s not forget to mention that Obama’s last act was to deport immigrants from Cuba. Strange for someone that visited Cuba and had a wonderful time. I suspect that they didn’t give him a load of free cigars.

Who can say what the price will be to restore America?

But, in the meantime, all the networks should budget for barf bags.
