One in six of the top colleges and universities in this country have ‘free speech’ zones. Usually these are remote and very small and have to be scheduled a considerable time in advance. Simply stated, one cannot say or do anything except listen to liberal professors express their ‘freedom’ freedom of speech.
A few days ago an administrator at Clemson University ordered a man to leave because he was sitting in a chair and praying. He did have another chair beside him with an 8X11 sheet of paper printed with ‘Prayer” on it. And, he was not affiliated with the school.
The NFL allows a second string quarterback to sit during the National Anthem but will not allow the Dallas Cowboys to wear a sticker on their helmets in support of the police. And yet, they allowed another team to run on to the field with ‘hands up don’t shoot' gestures.
When I went to ‘J’ (Journalism) school I was taught to respect the thoughts of others. “I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight for your right to say it.” What can I say? I was also taught to make a correct simple sentences and report the facts in a story.
Just in case you are not aware, you no longer have freedom of speech.

Insanity
It has been said that insanity is repeating the same process over and over again and expecting a different result. When the people continue to elect incumbents over and over, it is reasonable to expect that nothing will change.
Who’s crazier? The people in Washington or us?
The answer is obvious.

Making News
As often mentioned I have no use for the media in this country. They think freedom of the press is freedom to make a story sound the way they want it to. And, as sometimes uncovered, they will make up a story if it helps a personal image or objective.
The coverage of Colin Kaipernick not standing for the National Anthem has been covered, for the most part, as another cheap shot at American values and traditions. Does the multi millionaire have a right to stay seated? Yes, and he has the right to be crude, rude and disrespectful. But, it is not sitting well with the fans that pay the money so he can be rich and do stupid things.
The media didn’t seem to mention that the second string quarterback is a multimillionaire. Nor, did they mention he was adopted by white parents. Sure sounds like he has been oppressed.
How often does the media cover how much is done for people of all colors and races that need help and are willing to work hard?
Guess it’s hard to make up a story about that.

Don't Want To Get There
My financial controller gets upset if I mention my in-laws, but because I don’t mind very well, here I go again. She goes and picks them up to “just get them out” often. Sometimes they go shopping which means walking and sometimes they get ice cream.
This week there was an antique car show at the assisted living center where they live. They looked out the window at the old cars. It never occurred to them to walk outside and see the cars up close. When my financial controller told me about this, I told her it reminded me of a story. I have a story for everything.
There was an old man and woman sitting on a porch in rocking chairs. The old woman was turned to look one way and the old man was sitting looking the other way. The old woman said, “Well, the city has gotten a new fire truck. It sure is pretty, all red and shiny.” The old man replied, “I wish I was looking that way.”
Don’t want to get there.

Getting Too Old
Okay, I admit it. I’m getting too old, and there are some things I just have more trouble with than I used to. Like computers.
When I started using computers we used a really big stack of cards and after we had punched a bunch of holes in them, we loaded them into a machine about the size of Oklahoma and it spit out some kind of a report. But, I moved on to using mainframe connections from remote office locations. That was better.
The next step was to use a desktop that understood DOS commands. If you programed DOS to jump, that’s all it did. Quite unlike Windows. Alas, I mastered a few versions of Windows and learned to use a variety of software to get my jobs done. Then came Windows 8. Need I say anything else.
I used Windows 10 for a few days, but went back to 7, because 10 would not run some of the software I still use every day.
Having said all that, I find myself forgetting faster than I learn. Problems that arise daily are more of a challenge. Right now I’m working on a Windows 8 machine that is driving me crazy - crazier.
I wonder. Do they still sell Big Chief Tablets and #2 pencils?

Been There
I am not black, but I have witnessed racism first hand. Back in the early 60's one of my best friends was a black sergeant in the Army. He and I traveled together from the post when we could get off for a weekend. When we were hungry, we had to stop and let me go inside to get food to go, because he was not allowed inside. But, once we did stop at a chicken place he knew and I was not allowed to go inside, because I was white. That didn’t bother me as much as him not getting to go inside at other places.
That’s only one story and there are a lot more. The point being that racism existed and to some extent still does, on both sides. Sergeant Davis and I didn’t let it bother us. We were friends.
Over the years I’ve always tried to treat all people the way I wanted to be treated, and stand up against anyone that doesn’t. So the following may be a shock to some.
If you are looking for racism, look no further than the Democrat party. All they have ever done for black people is to convince them that they are on their side. Reality is that they have taken black Americans off the plantations and put them in the ghettos. Is it any wonder why there is so much frustration in America. People have had their dignity stripped from them in the name of “entitlement.” They have been robbed of hope.
Martin Luther King said that he dreamed of a time when a man would be judged by his character and not the color of his skin. It is hard to have the right kind of character in a ghetto.

Not To Worry
There is so much to worry about these days. I worry about important things like what to have for lunch and dinner.
Just because our open border policy has allowed about 30,000 individuals from countries that are terrorist hot spots to enter last year alone, you should not worry.
Because there is no supporting science that transgenders are born that way and millions of dollars are being spent to support them, is no reason to worry.
One source says only about 57 percent of the population is proud to be American, but that is not a reason to worry.
Schools are allowing children to opt out of the pledge of allegiance to the flag, but do not despair.
Medicare and military funds are being cut, while welfare payments are never cut, but you should not trouble your little mind over this.
Don’t worry. Be happy.

Debate Questions
Just when you thought it can’t get any worse, let me assure you it will. Get ready for the Trump - Clinton debate featuring the all knowing moderators. You may want to keep a bottle of Pepto and a barf bucket if you plan to watch this continuing political circus.
Having witnessed such events in the past, I have a strong suspicion of the type of questions one can expect. “Mr. Trump, do you still regard women as pigs?” “Ms. Clinton, that’s a lovely pant suit you have on, where did you get it?” You get the idea?
If they ask Trump if he still thinks Rosie O’Donnell is a pig, I hope he’ll refer the question to me.

Keys
In my pant pockets I have two key rings. There must be more than twenty keys on the pair. Other than the key to my house and one to my ace number one daughters house, I don’t have a clue what they go to.
I guess over several years, I have just added keys and never got rid of them when they no longer fit anything I had need to unlock. And, now I have suddenly discovered I am carrying around a bunch of keys that annoy me.
It is worth mentioning that I also have another key ring that I keep in a safe location that I only know what one key fits. Obviously I will never find out what all the keys fit, but I have a fear that someday I will be presented with a lock that I should have a key for and will have disposed of it.
I think I inherited this problem. My uncle ‘J” kept a key ring with literally a hundred or more keys. He kept it in his pickup glove compartment. The difference is, he knew what each key went to. ‘J’ had a key to almost every lock in three counties that had locked gates to prevent people from fishing or hunting on their property. Yes, the owners gave him a key.
Maybe I only inherited the part of keeping keys, not remembering where they go.

More Important Choice
There appears to be a lack of approval for either candidate in the race to be the next White House resident. I guess folks would like to have a door number three to choose from. Well, there ain’t no door number three. And, reality is that one should not be voting for either of the choices, but for a much more important choice.
The next appointment to the Supreme Court is critical in this election. And, that is the real issue. Obviously if Hilldawg gets in, the court nominee will be somebody that she and the other justices can control. However if the Donald gets the vote, he is more likely to choose a justice that is interested in justice, and the Constitution. Keep that in mind when election day comes around.
I really don’t think Woopie Goldberg would make a good justice.

IOC
The IOC - Marine Corps’ Infantry Officer Course - is tough. Most men don’t make it through the course. But, the PC politicians want women to be able to pass. There are two problems. First, women don’t want to subject themselves to the rigorous course. And, secondly, proven science is that men and women have significant physiological differences.
It is not going to be a surprise when liberal politicians force the Marines to lower the standards so women can pass. And, it will not be a concern when Marines die in combat, especially women.
One might ask, “What about national security?” If forced to lower standards, it is absolutely going to endanger everyone, even the liberal PC politicians.
We are living in a time, when sanity is frowned upon. The inmates have truly taken over.
Ask a liberal politician how to tell the sex of a puppy and they will tell you to look at the bottoms of its feet.

Monitor
I really, really, really hate talking about health issues. Everybody has them and I don’t want to know all the gory details, nor do I want others to hear about my aches and pains. But, what I will share is a bit about modern technology or lack thereof.
When I had to go to a cardiologist this week, they connected me to a heart monitor to wear for a week. Little do they know that I don’t have a heart. Anyway, I remember when my financial advisor had a monitor years ago, that it was rather large and cumbersome. Things have changed. What one gets now is a small recorder that sends a signal to a communicator which transmits data to somewhere in space. The communicator is a reworked iPhone.
I’ve had to call three times to get this technology reset, adjusted and whatever else. Each time I call I get a new story on how it works.
Now I am convinced that my heart beats are somewhere on Facebook and someone is developing a new app to play some silly game that shows when you are dead.
I’m still searching for a video poker game on the blame thing.

Cardiologist
I had to go to a cardiologist this week because a week or so ago, during one of my rare doctor visits, I had almost no pulse. That could be a sign of something, so I agreed to go to the specialist. For valid reasons I will not mention the doctor’s name. Most people call him Dr. K, because his last name is difficult to pronounce.
Dr. K is a young man, compared to me, and has been in practice for only a few years, but he has more credentials than one would expect. What’s amazing about him is, I liked him the moment we shook hands. I never like doctors. He was straight forward and seems to have a genuine interest in helping if he can. He ordered some test and set me up with a monitor to wear for a week.
When I got home from the office visit, I decided to do a little research on Dr. K. This is where I discovered that he was very well trained and educated, but I discovered something that caused me to stop and reflect on our meeting.
Dr. K was a paramedic before becoming a doctor.
He was at ground zero on 9-11- 2001.

Protest Are Profitable
Excuse me but has anyone else noticed that a lot of the protest we see are nothing more than an opportunity for criminals to burn and loot private property? If these people were truly protesting for justice, would they be committing acts of injustice toward innocent bystanders and property owners? They don’t want justice. They want free stuff.
Therefore it would seem that the way to deal with criminals is to arrest them, try them and punish them. That would make protesting less profitable. And, a whole lot less fun.
Protestors, don’t forget to send in the warranty registration on your new big screen TV.

If Thet Had
The facts are, and I understand how people hate facts, that if the Republicans had opposed Obama and the Democrats as much as they have Trump, we wouldn’t be in most of the mess we’re in.
I still think the best idea is to not have a president for a few years and see how that works. Or we could let the producers of "The View" use the oval office to record the show.
That way the Democrats would be real happy.

Country Boy Approach
It has occurred to me that what this country needs is a good old fashioned country boy approach to clean out Washington D.C.
In the old days, if one had a rat problem in the barn, and we do, one would take a hose and stick it in the tail pipe of a truck and poke the other end of the hose in a hole where the rats are denned up under the barn. After a few minutes, the rats would come running out, choked and coughing. Then one would take a big stick and ‘whop’ them.
It’s worth trying.

Fix It
If you really want to “fix” America, all you have to do is start all over. Go back to the morals and mores that existed when the country was founded. A belief in God, an absolute understanding of right and wrong and an unbreakable commitment to put America first.
The problem is that there have been generations that have removed or diluted everything that is necessary for a free country to remain free. Thus we have a lawless society engrossed in political correctness with leaders that are committed to power and wealth, no matter what the cost.
It will take a re-education that would be a miracle.
I’m old and won’t live to see it. Good luck.

It's Time
If you are not fed up with politics by now, you are dead and won’t be reading this anyway. I truly believe that this country needs to boil some tar, pick some feathers and ride some folks out of Washington on a rail. Never in my lifetime, maybe in history, have the “leaders” behaved more like little spoiled brats than the way they are now. Obviously they all are, left and right, living in fear of what happens if Trump gets elected.
Remember, I am not a big Trump supporter, but when I see the other choice, I start thinking Trump doesn’t look all that bad. Reality is that if he prevails, happy days are over for all the “elites” and so they have combined forces, along with the media, to make Trump fail.
While politics play out, we, the American people are again cast to the wayside, which is where we seem to always be. It is time for what’s left of the populous with enough sense to come in out of the rain to say, “No.”
“We’re mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore.”

What's On My Mind
From the beginning of this blog I’ve made it clear that I write about whatever is on my mind at the time I sit down to write. There are lots of things I don’t write about that are on my mind, but I remind myself that this is a family blog.
Here’s a story from a preacher I listened to this weekend. He told about a 50th anniversary party for a couple that had achieved this mile marker in marriage. A man walked up to the man being honored and said, “Boy, 50 years with the same woman is a long time.” The man gave a simple answer, “It would have been a lot longer without her.”
Something to think about.

IDI
Have you ever heard of IDI? They’ve heard of you. In fact, they possibly know more about you than you do. It seems that for years private investigators have been gathering information on just about everybody and storing it in a data base. Information from public records and non public records, as well as marketing data bases that tell what you spend on groceries and other things.
With information from the DMV, county and state real estate transactions, addresses, phone numbers, criminal records, and even fishing licenses, IDI can whip out a report to a PI that may include photos of you from social media.
It’s not just big brother watching anymore.
And, for a price, all that information is available.

Bye Sparky
As I’ve stated before, for those that have special needs children, it is not the child that has special needs, it is all of us. Our special needs granddaughter, now 26, never ceases to amaze me. She never forgets.
When our daughter and family moved to this area, East Texas, they had a dog named Sparky. Sparky had been around for a few years and was truly a story in himself. But, after they had been in the new location for a couple of years, Sparky died. He was buried in the back yard, just outside of the “office” room window.
This week, ace number one daughter and family moved to a new house. And, on the last moving day, the special needs granddaughter had to go from room to room and say goodbye to the room, as she obviously had memories of each room. The last room was the office room, and she said goodbye, but then she walked over to the window and said, “Bye Sparky, I’ll see you later.”
What kind of world would this be if we would just remember the special things in life, like Sparky. That’s why I say it is us that have the special needs. Maybe granddaughter and the others will teach us.
If we will just pay attention and learn.

Stupid People
Feebleminded, brainless, half witted, foolish, or lacking intelligence all equal what is commonly called stupidity. Nobody likes to be called stupid, especially if someone laughs and points at you. But, everyday politicians not only think of the populous as being stupid, but they enjoying proving that the majority of people are stupid about government.
How many times has a politician, any politician, made a promise that they forget before the words get rolled out of their mouth? Lies, lies and more lies are repeated everyday by politicians, knowing that the “unwashed” won’t remember in a very short time. “If you like your doctor, then you can keep your doctor.”
America does not pay ransom. Yes, we do. Especially when a deal is struck to give a country that wants to wipe us off the face of the earth, nuclear weapons. How many people remember the deal with Iran? The point is, so few do and they are easily silenced.
Because politicians protect each other, they are above the laws that govern we peons. Is Hillary guilty of putting our country at risk and worse? Not according to the FBI which is controlled by politicians.
A reliable source reveals that our representatives that vote on legislation, never read a single bill. They have a staff that supposedly reads and recommends how they should vote. It is possible that one “just out of a liberal ivy league college,” kid can read or not read a bill and tell your representative to vote yea or nay.
Right now there is measure that is being touted as a “trade bill” that is anything but a trade bill. TPP stands for TransPacific Partnership. Ask your member of congress if he or she has read it and see what kind of answer you get. Truth is that it is like the Affordable Health Act, a.k.a. “Obamacare” and will be passed just like Nancy Pelosi said, “We need to pass this bill so we can see what’s in it.” And, the stupid people remained silent.
TPP can and will destroy the way you live on a daily basis. It will affect the food supply, medicine, and even force immigration of a work force to take jobs. You say you never heard of TPP. That’s what the politicians are counting on.
Being stupid is being governed by a group that has no interest in citizens but to control.
All stupid people please raise your hand.

Sermon In A Song
In one of my previous lives, I played disc jockey at a few radio stations. I had to keep up with music and all the artist, but that no longer applies to my daily routine. So, from time to time, I watch a concert on TV. There is a station on our TV provider that offers several concerts, and some are by people that I know about.
Such was the case this week when we watched Tim McGraw. I did know some of his songs, such as, “Live Like You’re Dying.” But he had others that I did not know such as, “I Am Only Jesus.” The lyrics include:
“I gave every star a name
The sunshine and the rain
But I can't decide the road you choose
That's up to you, I'm only Jesus
I'm only Jesus, I'm only Jesus”
A lot of sermons I’ve heard don’t say it any better.

You Will Never Know - Unless
Over half of the country agrees that Hillary lies. Depending upon which poll you read and at what time, the numbers run from 50 to 75% that she cannot be believed. So, what can we as a people do?
Reality is that unless Trump is elected, no one will ever know any, certainly not all, of the things she has done and lied about. When you think you just can’t vote for “The Donald,” take a moment and remember.
Hillary gets off, absolutely free if she is elected.

The Way It Is
This little story has more truth than fiction. Two politicians are sitting in a bar. One is a Republican and one is a Democrat. One says to the other, “I will work with you to make you powerful and rich, if you will help me become powerful and rich.” The second one agrees, but then hesitates and says, “But, what about the American people?”
The first one replies, “Who?”

Trouble With Trump
You may have noticed that I often have to say something about, “Hilldawg,” or “Slick Hillie” as I like to call her. There are some other things I call her, but this is a family blog. Truth is I have problems with “the Donald” too.
The biggest problem Mr. Trump has is that while he has the right to remain silent, he does not have the ability.
He needs to remember what we old people were taught at an early age.
“Be sure brain is in gear, before opening mouth.”
