Women spend billions of dollars every year to look sexy. Clothes, makeup, hair, nails, face lifts, tummy tucks, breast jobs, nose surgery, glasses or contacts (which ever is more sexy), weight loss products, and the list can go on and on. They want to look sexy. To who?
Just let a guy say, "Wow you look sexy," and see what happens.

Indian Way
I have admired the Indian way of teaching for most of my life. Native Americans just have a way of putting things into perspective. That is, if you understand.
What color is the sky? Blue. The sky is blue. But, not always. Sometimes we see it as gray, red, orange, or black depending upon clouds and sunlight. But, the sky is blue. We have to wait for a clear day to see the true color.
The truth is like that.

Mail Your Briefs
ALIPAC, Americans for Legal Immigration Political Action Committee, wants you to mail your briefs to Obama and Boehner in response to a government request for new underwear for the recent surge of illegal immigrants being held by the border patrol. "Instead of using our tax money to buy illegals 42,000 pairs of new underwear, we would like to send the illegals and DC politicians a message," a spokesperson said.
It hasn’t been long ago that there was a movement to send tea bags to the White House. Apparently politicians don’t listen well. If everyone in the country sent a pair of underwear, it would be a stronger message.
Especially if you don’t launder them first.

Told You So
I have been telling you that this country is run by nannies that want to run and ruin your life. Now they are moving in and refusing to move out. It’s "nanny nightmare" for a couple in California. A few months ago the couple advertised for a retiree to watch three children and help around the house in exchange for room and board. The nanny moved in but stopped working after a few weeks, and refused to come out of her room except at meal times.
The couple "fired" her and ordered her to leave. "If you want me to go, you’ll have to evict me, I have rights," said the nanny. Then she said she would sue them.
The police have refused to take any action, citing it is a civil matter. The couple reports they did some research and found the nanny has been involved in 37 lawsuits with some against her own family members.
My guess is that the nanny will win.
That’s how we got where we are today.

Offended Again
First there was the case against the Washington Red Skins. Now the Cleveland Indians are faced with a law suit over their name. Do you see dollar signs. The lawyers do.
We live in a politically insanely incorrect society where anything and everything is offensive to somebody. Especially if there is monetary gain. You see, lawyers make money - big money - off these suits. Oh, I’m not saying that somewhere sometime someone used redskin in a derogatory manner. But, everyday someone somewhere uses demeaning terms about every race, creed, color and whatever else they can think of.
I have always been proud of my Indian heritage. There is a special spot in my heart for the way Native Americans have been mistreated in this country. No people have ever been treated the way they have. But, give me a break. Indian, regardless of tribe, is a proud name and a proud symbol of this land in whatever context it is used. The teams that use Indians, redskins, warriors or the like in their name intended to portray they are tough.
You want an offensive name? How about the "Senators." They had to become the Minnesota Twins.
I am offended by that name because I am not a twin.

God Bless You
Can you imagine a complete stranger, better yet, an employee of a business, saying, "God bless you?" I’m talking about a young man, in his teens. I think his name was Jamie.
While running an errand, I whipped into a fast food drive through and placed an order. At the pickup window, I paid for my order and when the nice young man handed me my hot dog, he said, "God bless you."
The reason I’m writing about this is because I won’t say where it happened. If I did, there would be some anti-everything nannies swooped down on the place and demand it stop immediately. Apparently the business owner not only allows such behavior, but supports it. I will say that the food is not all that great, but the service is top notch. Thanks Jamie.
Right back at you.

New Diet
Americans spend billions of dollars every year on diet products and services - that’s billions with a B. And, except for the select few you see in commercials, few actually lose and keep weight off. But, people keep on buying the promises and dreams that they soon will be slim and sexy. Sexy is the most important part.
Guess what? There is a new diet coming out that everyone will be on whether you want to be or not. At this time there is no "official" name for the diet. But someone, somewhere is probably working on the commercials. It’s the "you can’t afford to buy food diet."
I suppose that most people are not like me when they shop. I check prices and notice increases in the cost of everything. A trip to the grocery reveals that one of the fastest price increases is hamburger meat. Just plain old hamburger. I saw a package of patties that are now almost $9 per pound. You’re going to need a lot of helper for that hamburger.
As a comparison I wondered over to the dog food aisle. I keep hearing that old people finally get to a financial position of having to eat dog food. A two pound bag cost almost $14. That’s $7 per pound. The cheap stuff is 3 pounds for $6. The solution is to feed the dog the cheap stuff.
Then eat the dog.

Daddy's Little Man
My Dad taught me to fish, shoot and hunt, not to mention how to fix stuff that gets broken. I have fond memories of those times. But, the one that I cherish most is when he accepted my independence. I think I was about 12 or 14 at the time.
When we fished, my job was to get him bait and put the fish he caught onto a stringer or in a fish basket. Truth is, I didn’t get to fish too much. But the day came, when he caught a fish and told me to put it on the stringer. I replied, "You put it on the stringer, I’m getting a bite." He kind of smiled and put the fish on the stringer. From that day forward, I was an equal fisherman. Sure, I still got him bait and put the fish up, but it was because I wanted to. I finally got to really fish and would try real hard to beat him in the number and size of the fish. Sometimes I did because he had taught me well. And, I was free to try my own techniques.
Dad was not an educated man. I think he went through the 8th grade. But, he understood that if I was to survive in the world, he had to let me go and make my own mistakes. He slowly left the role as a parent to tell me every move, to one that would bring him to me for help about things I knew that he didn’t. He trusted me. He was an independent man and he wanted me to be one.
We fished after I left home. Most of the time, he put his own fish on the stringer. I never let him drive my boat. We had fun.
Until he died, he never again tried to be boss to a little kid. He never interfered with what I did. If he needed help, he would let me know. And, if I need help, I would go to him. Neither happened very often. We were both independent.
We were poor so he never gave me a lot of material things. But, now I realize that what he gave me, money can’t buy.
When I get to fish now, I get my own bait and put the fish on the stringer.
It’s nice.

Angry Americans
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal says there is a rebellion brewing in the U.S. with people ready for "a hostile takeover" of the nation’s capitol. Jindal spoke this weekend at the annual conference hosted by the Faith and Freedom Coalition, according to a report by Newsmax.
"I can sense right now a rebellion brewing amongst these United States," Jindal said, "where people are ready for a hostile takeover of Washington, D.C, to preserve the American dream for our children and grandchildren."
The governor said there was a "silent war" on religious liberty being fought in this country. "I am tired of the left. They say they’re for tolerance, they say they respect diversity. The reality is this: They respect everybody unless you happen to disagree with them," he said. "The left is trying to silence us and I’m tired of it. I won’t take it anymore."
"People crushed by law have no hope but from power. If laws are their enemies, they will be enemies to laws; and those who have much to hope and nothing to lose will always be dangerous." Edmund Burke (1729-1797)

Cow Patties
I sincerely believe that if the media came out with a story that said eating cow patties is the best thing that you can do, there would be millions out in the pastures following cows around to get ahead of everyone else. Sound ridiculous? Not really. Wether you will admit it or not, this country is overrun with people that think if they hear it on the radio, see it on TV or the internet, it must be true.
The LA Times ran a story this week, and there were numerous other reports from other media, that cable TV boxes are the second largest energy users in many homes. This means that your TV box for satellite or cable uses more energy than your refrigerator, clothes dryer, or oven. If you believe that, I have some ocean front property in West Texas I’m sure you would like to buy.
The story points out that some of the boxes uses almost as much energy when they are off as when they are on. This is true, they do. So do computers. But, a little further into the story, it is revealed that the average consumption is 35 watts. That means it takes almost 29 hours to use 1 kilowatt of electricity. Electric consumption is measured in kilowatts and kilowatt hours. If the box runs 24 hours per day, 30 days per month, at a rate of 15¢ per kWh (kilowatt- hour) the cost would be $3.78 per month. That’s a lot less than running a refrigerator or just about anything else in your house.
Now there is a movement to demand that the televison providers improve their equipment so it is energy efficient. All the while, the government has taken steps to shut down coal plants so there will be less electricity which will result in shortages and much higher prices.
All of this because some woman in Los Alamitos saw on the back of her receiver a rating of 500 watts. She has no idea that the rating is how much power the unit can take in a sudden power surge before it is destroyed.
Back to the cow patties. They couldn’t taste any worse or do nearly the harm as believing the stuff that is put out as fact by the media and the government.
It’s BS.

Free
It is often said, "Never believe anything you hear and only half of what you see." Yet everyday, billions of people choose to believe what they hear and close their eyes completely so as not to see. Are we not supposed to seek the truth? Or, is truth what we fear the most?
Over many years I have learned that no one - absolutely no one - is what they appear to be. You nor I.
I have also learned, the truth will set you free.

A Step Back
Jokingly I have said that if the world came to an end, it would be several years before anyone in East Texas would know it happened. Today I have a case in point with a visit to a dentist.
My first trip to a dentist was about a million years ago but I remember certain things about it. One of those was that when you had to spit, there was a porcelain bowl with swirling water. Over the years dentist adopted a vacuum system where they suck water out of your mouth. They even spray water into your mouth so you can rinse out all the gunk. My visit to a dentist office here took me back to the porcelain bowl. And, their x-ray machine looked exactly like the one used in the good old days.
I may be slow to adjust to technology, but when it comes to dental work, I want the latest, fastest, and least painful available.
I should have been suspicious when I drove up to the office. It was located in a residential neighborhood next to a railroad track - behind a hospital. Imagine if you will, a scene from the early 50's. The office was a house that had been converted into an office. It did have a big parking lot that ran all the way over to the train tracks.
All I wanted was to have a cleaning. What I got was a lot of scraping with a little buffing. Just like the old days. I am now accustomed to hygienists that use a spray to clean teeth which gets my pearlies all nice and shiny. It may be another 50 years before they get that technology.
The dentist did talk about replacing a missing tooth with a bridge. He explained how that process works.
The part about whittling out a new tooth to go in the gap got my attention.

Illegal Dollars
There is a major problem with illegal immigration in this country. Now, children are crossing our borders to get their share of the wealth from America. The Border Patrol has always been under manned, overworked and ordered not to enforce the laws. How would you like a job like that?
Let me be clear, I am not against immigration so long as it is done through the legal process. Illegal immigration only brings major problems for everyone - including the immigrants. They claim they seek jobs but drain social programs set up for citizens. They bring diseases that were all but eradicated here because they don’t have immunization programs in the countries where they came from. And, the immigrants are doomed to live a different poverty in a strange land. If you don’t think so, look at New York City which is being overrun with illegals.
Billions and billions of tax dollars are being spent on illegal immigration. This is not the choice of a large majority of Americans. But as usual, government doesn’t pay much attention to what the citizens want.
Unless action is taken, we will have to put up signs saying "Closed - Gone Out of Business."

Trivia
Because I consider myself a wealth of worthless information - at least information that most people don’t care about - I like trivia. For example, did you know that Donald Duck comics were banned in Finland because he doesn’t wear pants? I actually knew that. Don’t ask me why.
Dueling is legal in Paraguay as long as both parties are registered blood donors. More people are killed by donkeys annually than are killed in plane crashes. And, it takes a lot longer to get somewhere on a donkey. Ready for some more?
The United States has never lost a war in which mules were used. That one is easier to believe after hearing about the donkeys. Maybe the mules kick the enemy to death. And, then there’s this one. In Texas, it’s illegal to put graffiti on someone else’s cow.
I wish I had known that sooner.

Talk Talk Talk
My financial controller talks for hours and hours on the phone. She talks to her mother and one of her aunts about anything and everything. I, on the other hand, rarely have a conversation that lasts more than a few minutes and usually involves some kind of business information for my retiree clubs, how to fix something or computer problems.
About once per year I do visit with a friend in Nevada and may visit for awhile. This upsets my financial controller. She points out that I talk to my friend more than I talk to her. What she fails to understand is that my friend doesn’t know about the things that have happened in our lives, but she does. And, she doesn’t want to talk about IRAs and 401ks, or energy conservation or cars. Most men face the same situation with wives. It all started in the days of cavemen.
Women were gathers and talked while they gathered to scare off the animals. Men were hunters and didn’t talk so as to not scare off the animals.
Besides, I told her everything I know years ago.

Dad's Day
You want this country to regain dignity, integrity, honesty and honor with a love of God, freedom and justice, then all that has to happen is for fathers to regain those qualities and raise their families to live by them.
Fathers have to be dads. Dads love their families.
It's not hard to be a father. It can be tough to be a dad.

Flag Day
June 14, 1777 is the day that by resolution, the Second Continental Congress adopted the flag of the United States. It has been celebrated every year since. But what does it mean? In 1969 Red Skelton presented his version of the Pledge of Allegiance on his television show. There were almost a half million phone calls to TV stations and networks. A record of the presentation sold over 2 million copies.
For those that remember and those that may have never heard it, the link below is to that four minutes that best defines what the flag should mean to all Americans.

And, just in case you don’t know, the meaning of the flag hasn’t changed.

Affirmative Consent
There are some folks in California that are trying to get legislation to require students at state run college campuses to have an "affirmative consent" form completed before they can have sex. They are trying to reduce rape cases and allow those that don’t want to go along with sex focused campuses the ability to say NO.
This may surprise you, but I am all in favor of an official document that allows a man and woman to have sex.
It’s called a marriage license.

New Ride
My financial controller has a new ride. She gets one about every two to three years. The way she judges when it’s time to trade is when she has so much stuff in what she’s driving that there is no room for her.
I always have to go to make the trade and she hates to go with me. But, she knows if I go alone, I come home with the same old vehicle. This time she told the general manager I dealt with that he had made it easier for her by not getting me upon top of his desk to make my offer understood. I will admit, that I can be a little stubborn - okay, a lot stubborn.
New cars cost a lot of money - a lot more than previous models. And, they offer less, especially room and quality parts. There’s not a lot of storage in the new SUV. As a matter of fact, there is almost none. The old one had lots of places to put your stuff. Not this one.
Most parts on the interior are plastic or imitation plastic on new vehicles. So far as I can tell, all of the parts on the exterior are real plastic. All manufacturers have trimmed out anything heavy to improve mileage. Plus, they have made new models so small, any obese person can’t get inside and mess up the mileage.
The plan is to give this new ride to the youngest granddaughter in a couple of years. After she gets some experience driving an old pickup. The sales person asked her, "What are you going to drive when you give the new one to granddaughter?" I piped in, "She has a golf cart."
That may not have been the right answer.

Tip For Politicians
Here’s my tip for all the politicians: you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. And, when people have enough, they will kick your butt out.
Ask Eric Cantor.

Food Crisis
In case you are not aware, we have a food crisis. Well, maybe it’s a cost of food crisis. But, I am talking one of the three major foods - bacon. The other two major foods are T-Bone steak and Twix candy bars. Both of those have gone up in price too. But, bacon is what gets the day started. No matter how bad the day is going to be, you can have a quiet moment and have a few slices of bacon and all is better.
A few weeks ago at the local store (not supermarket) a young lady at the register asked, "How is your day going? She really didn’t want to know, so I told her, "Bad and looking worse." She smiled sweetly as she rang up my purchases and said, "Well, at least you got bacon." That’s what I’m talking about.
Today at the store, bacon is priced so high, there was a crowd of people just standing around looking at it. A man I didn’t know commented, "Looks like I should take up hog farming." I agreed with him and bit the bullet and bought a pound of the cheaper brand. I am going to eat it all by myself.
Eating high on the hog used to mean one had some wealth. Now, it’s eating sow belly that shows you’ve got money. I no longer have money, since I bought a pound of bacon.
Now, I’m researching pig farming.

Amendment Needed
There’s an old saying, "What this country needs is a good 5 cent cigar." Translated, that means keep things simple and reasonably priced. Today, what this country needs is an amendment to the Constitution that simply requires all government officials, elected and appointed, to abide by the same laws and punishments that the rest of us do. Simply put, if they pass legislation, they have to live by it.
A 5 cent cigar doesn’t sound bad either - hand rolled from 8th Street in Miami.

Who?
Who taught you to talk, walk, dress yourself, tie your shoes, how to eat, how to read, how to drive, how to go potty and wash your hands, cross the street safely, not to touch fire and electricity, and manners? Who taught you to get along with others, not to have temper tantrums, steal, what to believe and what not to? Who taught you to laugh and cry and that both are okay - sometimes? Who taught you to hold hands for safety and for love. Who comforted you when you needed it and disciplined you when it was necessary? Who loves you more than life itself?

Blue Jay
We have an abundance of critters inside our little compound. There are foxes, squirrels, snakes, ducks, and a broad variety of birds. One of the prettiest is the common Blue Jay. I like Blue Jays because they are like grumpy old men. And, they are not afraid of grumpy old men.
There are a lot of oak trees around our house, so there are plenty of acorns - one of the Jays favorite foods. Almost everyday, there may be a number of them feeding around the trees. And, they eat bugs. This week as I was watering a flower bed with a spray nozzle, a Jay zoomed past me and landed in the bed to get a big insect. He landed right in the sport I was watering. I didn’t move the nozzle. He didn’t move either, so he got a shower, and a bug. Then, he took off.
Blue Jays mimic sounds. They often sound like hawks to scare off other birds. And, in captivity they have been known to imitate human sounds and cats. When Mr. Jay flew away, I heard some kind of sound.
I think he said he would see me next Thursday.

Open Carry
There has been a lot in the news about open carry of guns in Texas. Proponents have carried long guns (rifles and shotguns) into the streets and into some fast food places. There are many of opinions about the actions of the groups advocating changing the law to allow open carry of handguns. The arguments for and against have valid arguments. But, I will go on record as being undecided if it would be a good idea.
I have a concealed handgun permit. It is an awesome responsibility to carry a gun. In all the years, I have had only two occasions that I remember where a gun was important. The first time, I did not have my gun. It was in the car. That one ended okay. The second time, I had my gun. That one ended okay too without the aggressor ever knowing I had a gun. That’s what you are supposed to do.
Guns are tools is a statement often heard. I agree. About 40 years ago, I bought a plumbing tool that I used once. I have never had to use a gun and don’t want to.
It is my opinion that the movement to carry guns is a symptom of a people that are afraid. They are afraid of government, afraid of those of other nations that have demonstrated they want to kill us, and they are afraid of each other. We live in a divided nation where frustration leads to anger and fear. Openly carrying guns is an attempt to feel safe. It also adds to fear by those that don’t carry or know if the ones with guns are friend or foe. At least with concealed guns, the bad guys don’t know who has a gun.
There was a time when a lot of people carried guns, because they felt the need for self protection. That was the old west, as they say. Are we heading back to that time? Is there a need to?
I have always believed that no one should own a gun that hasn’t been trained in safety and law. Will open carry bring those requirements? It better or things could get a lot worse.
The second worse thing I can imagine is to shoot someone. The first is for someone to shoot me.

State Of Nanny
About a year ago I got an email that pretty well sums up the nanny state we live in. It was a conversation between a couple of kids - a girl and a boy. It went something like this:
She: I am pro choice.
He: Can I choose to smoke?
She: No, it’s bad for you.
He: Can I choose a large soda?
She: No, it’s bad for you.
He: Can I choose to oppose illegal immigration and gay marriage?
She: No, that’s racist and homophobic.
He: Can I choose to own a gun?
She: No, guns are dangerous.
He: Can I choose an incandescent light bulb?
She: No, it’s not good for the planet.
He: Can I choose low cost coal to generate electricity?
She: No, it’s not good for the planet.
He: Can I choose to honor God?
She: No, that’s offensive.
He: Can I choose to think for myself?
She: No, you don’t think the right way.
He: What can I choose?
She: You can have an abortion.

Humidity
Relative humidity is the ratio of moisture in the air at a particular temperature as compared to the maximum humidity that the air can hold at that temperature. Absolute humidity is that amount that air can hold without the humidity falling - rain. Why do you need to know this? Because if you don’t live in East Texas, you can’t appreciate the humidity we have. How bad is it? On some days, you can go outside and shower by just moving around a little bit.
You have to come inside to dry off and make the neighbors quit yelling at you.

Bugs
When you live in East Texas and near a lake, you have bugs. Lots and lots of bugs of all kinds, especially spiders. Spiders eat other bugs. Scorpions eat spiders, but I haven’t seen any of them yet. I think the snakes ate them.
Because I detest bugs, especially gnats, I have to spray for insects often. Don’t pay any attention to the label where it says, "Lasts up to 3 months." And, I mix the solution a tad to the heavy side. Some bugs think that insect spray is a treat. Not this time! I mixed up the spray to kill them DEAD. I don’t want to just wound them. But, I may have gotten the mix a little strong this time. The spray killed a Volkswagon beetle driving by.
That’ll teach them to come flying by on my street.

Transgender Surgery
In case you haven’t heard, those that apply to Medicare for transgender surgery can no longer be automatically denied. The way I understand the ruling by the Department of Health and Services review board, is that a request may not necessarily be approved, but cannot be automatically denied.
For you youngsters, Medicare is for disabled and old people. Therefore, the obvious question is, "Why would some old or disabled person be concerned about a sex change?" Don’t they have enough problems?
Apparently all this came about because of a request from a 74 year old Army veteran who was denied payment for her genital reconstruction a couple of years ago.
Maybe she should apply to the Veterans Administration.

More Gun Law
House Democrats have introduced legislation to keep firearms from the hands of the severely mentally ill. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) And Ed Perimutter (D-Colo.) are the sponsors of the measure that would expand the list of people prohibited from buying or possessing guns to include a broader swath of mental health patients and convicted criminals. Insiders suggest that the bill has little chance of moving through the House.
If passed, no one in Congress would be allowed to own a gun.
