This nation was founded upon the principle that mankind has reasoning abilities and therefore is capable of being governed by themselves. But, it has evolved into a nation that no longer reasons and takes as truth what the government and media spews out daily. Thomas Jefferson understood that could and would happen if the people surrendered their ability to reason.
"Man, once surrendering his reason, has no remaining guard against absurdities the most monstrous, and like a ship without rudder, is the spot of every wind. With such persons, gullability, which they call faith, takes the helm from the hand of reason and the mind becomes a wreck." —Thomas Jefferson (1822)
He also realized that two critical basics to self government can correct whatever problems arise.
"Let common sense and common honesty have fair play, and they will soon set things to rights." --Thomas Jefferson to Ezra Stiles, (1786)
The question is, how do we get common sense and honesty back into government?
