The secret to a long marriage has been discussed for centuries. Some folks say that you must have common interest and goals, while others argue that opposites attract. There is always the argument that each party must be 100% committed to the other, through the good times and the bad. However, I do know a man that swears golf saved his marriage - she liked him not being home all the time.
You don’t hear about marriages that last 50 years much these days, but they are occurring. My in-laws are nearing 75 years. I know they had lots of ups and downs, but stayed together because they are committed to each other.
They may be millions of reasons for long marriages, but I think the single reason that goes beyond love, commitment and all the others is quite simple.
The real secret is knowing when to shut up.
