Press One

When I make a phone call, please explain why should I have to press one for English? I have encountered some businesses that have a message that says to press one for Spanish. Imagine that.

English is the universal language for flying an airplane. If you have to speak English to fly a plane, then why can’t you order a pizza in English. Ordering a pizza is a lot easier than flying a plane. Well, it used to be.

What’s even more fun is to press one and get a customer service representative in Pakistan or India. Don’t you love listening to them try to read the script they work from? My southern drawl just doesn’t work well with them.

I wonder if you press two for Spanish, who do you get? Maybe some guy in Brooklyn? Can you imagine a guy speaking Spanish with a Brooklyn accent?

I have nothing against other languages. The best neighbors I have ever had spoke Spanish. But, they also spoke English. And, when I called them I didn’t have to press one.
