Lawyers?

If you had to choose an absolute last place in professional services, what would it be? I know what the last one would be for me. Would it be a doctor or dentist? Understand, I have a phobia about dentist, so they would be second last.

How about plumbers? Calling a plumber conjures up all kinds of images. How about auto mechanic. They usually aren’t as bad as their reputation.

Think about it. Lawyers! No one I know wants to have to use a lawyer. I don’t. The why’s are obvious. They know everything and are unyielding when arguing for hours. They get paid by the hour. Many times, criminal lawyers know their client is guilty, but they try to get them free if they can. It’s their job.

If lawyers are bad, and most aren’t, pray tell why do we send them to Washington to make laws. At this writing, almost forty percent of Congress are lawyers or at least have a JD degree.

It just doesn’t make sense to have people representing us that are by training and instinct prone to worry more about defeating their opponent than they do for the common good of the people they represent.

Survey Says

Economist Thomas Sowell says that according to a recent survey almost half of Americans support redistribution of the wealth in this country. A Gallup poll in April of 2011 revealed that 71% of Democrats support such an action. Only 29% of Republicans were in favor.

If you can believe the polls, and there are lots of reasons to and not to, then it is only a matter of time until Socialism takes over. The next step is Communism.

Can this happen in America?  Ridiculous? Maybe not.

If You Quit

Have you ever undertaken a project or mission that just went on for what seemed like forever? I’m talking about those things that appear to be a lost cause, but you believe in it so you don’t give up - at least for awhile.

Here’s what happens if you quit - you lose. So long as you hang in there and keep on keeping on, then you haven’t lost. You may never win, but you also never have lost.

When thinking about the cause to change governments back to the will of the people, there have been maybe millions of attempts that failed - losses. But, what about those poor souls that keep on trying? Surely, they can see that government rules and not the people. Yes, they know, but the quest for freedom is strong.

When, it’s you against the world, keep on fighting. You may not win, but as long as you try, you don’t lose.

The Truth

"I swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and everything but the truth." That line came from a movie I saw once. Every time I hear a politician or newscaster speak, I think about that line.

Will Rogers said, " Nothing makes a man, or a body of men, as mad as the truth." This would explain why so many people today are angry. The truth is not what we are accustomed to hearing. All it takes is a little research to find that what we are told about government and laws may contain some truth, but the devil is always in the details.

It is apparent that this country is broke or soon will be. I admit that I am not real good at math but when you spend more than you take in and build on credit that you can’t repay, there is going to be the inevitable end.

I don’t have the solution to Social Security, Medicare or any of the numerous "entitlement" programs. However, I’ve learned that when what you’re doing is only making matters worse, then stop doing it.

Again to quote Mr. Rogers, "It isn’t what we know that gives us trouble, it’s what we know that ain’t so." No matter how many experts spout how many theories and plans, it just ain’t so. "You can’t spend yourself out of debt."

Dad's Day

He wasn’t educated or sophisticated. He hated to wear a tie and refused to wear a short sleeve shirt. His face was worn from working in the sun and wind.

He didn’t always provide for his family, but he did the best he could. I saw him cry one Christmas when he had no money for food or presents.

It was easy to get angry with him. He based his opinions on what he thought and not what the facts were.

His grandchildren were his delight - especially one.

He died when he was seventy one. The only time he ever said he loved me was in response to me telling him that I loved him. I guess he didn’t have to say it because I was supposed to know it.

He gave us all he had. Sometimes, it wasn’t enough, but it was his all.

Miss you Dad.

Post Time

Well the candidates are lining up for 2012. It looks like the only person not running on the Republican side is me. Since I’m not running, I’ve decided to make a list of qualifications for those that do.

The selectable candidate of any party should be a gifted liar with a silver tongue that talks tough and makes empty promises. Personality plus is a must, with a air of confidence that anyone can trust. He or she must be power hungry with a secret agenda to please a small group of friends and financial supporters. Above all, the candidate must have an intense desire to squander money and truly believe that citizens need higher taxes so they will realize that government is the only solution to their problems.

Let’s hope we don’t get someone that can actually set aside personal desires and lead the country back to Constitutional government. Just imagine the chaos that would create.

The Truth?

The atheist says, "there is no God."   When you die you die and that’s all there is to it. Christians on the other hand proclaim that there is life after this one.

One thing is for sure. If the atheist is right, then neither he or she nor the Christian will ever know the truth. If dying is it, then that’s it.

But, if the Christian is right, they both will know for all eternity. And, that’s a long time to be wrong.

Too Much Technology

Technology is a wonderful thing to a point. Have you realized that now days, if you want, you can attain absolute non-privacy? Between tweeting and texting and social networks and email, there is just too much information being exchanged.

I for one don’t really care where anyone is or what they are doing every second of the day. But technology keeps advancing. Talk about "big brother," there are devices that track your every move, even if you’re not moving.

Sure, I enjoy blu-ray movies and high speed internet, but I don’t have time to check out a couple of million apps on my cell phone. In fact, I am looking for a phone with a rotary dial. All I want is to make and receive an occasional call.

And, all this technology is making us a bunch on invalids. My electric toothbrush went dead this morning and I had to revert to manual. Do you brush up and down or sideways?

With luck we’ll run out of power and all the batteries will go dead. Then, I’ll be up to speed on technology.

Don't Die Before You Do

What happens to humans when they retire and get old? They die. The sad part is that so many die before they die.

I don’t believe that it is intended for "seniors" to stay at home and wait for the next doctor appointment. However, millions do just that and develop a zombie like existence - the walking dead. Society has told them, "enjoy your golden years." "Do what you want to." Believe me, it doesn’t take long doing what you want to until you no longer want to.

The human spirit thrives on challenge. Of course, physical conditions prevent almost everyone from doing things like when they were twenty or thirty something. But, the spirit doesn’t give up unless you let it. It takes a little creativity to overcome physical limitations but that’s part of the challenge.

Who said that when you get old, you have to go home and sit - watch TV, read, play on the computer or just wait to die? Whomever it was, they lied. At this stage of life, there are more opportunities than ever before. Sure it takes more to get a little done, but doing a little is a lot more than nothing.

Maxine said, "I want to go out with a beer in one hand and a chocolate bar in the other, yelling wahoo, what a ride."

Weiner the Wiener

So Anthony Weiner, representative from Brooklyn and Queens lied. Big deal. Apparently most of his constituents say they don’t think he should resign and they would vote for him again.

Let’s not go into what would have happened if he was a Republican. He is a politician. From what I have observed so far in life, when it comes to politicians, a crime or a sin is anything you do and get caught.

My question is what does this behavior say about the country? It’s not a trick question. The answer is simple and obvious. So long as we get our wants and needs met, it doesn’t matter how it is done. The character of the persons representing us is only important if they get caught.

It just may be that representatives are nothing more than a reflection of those they represent. There can be no shame if there is nothing to be ashamed of.

WHO

The World Health Organization has determined that cell phones are carcinogenic. That puts them in the class with pesticides and coffee.

In the quest for a risk free world, the WHO continues to support my theory that everything can kill you.

They did not mention texting while driving. That’s probably because it doesn’t cause cancer, just wrecks that can kill you instantly.

What ever you do, don’t talk on the cell phone while you’re drinking coffee.
