UPI reports Chuck Netzhammer of Slidell, Louisiana went to a local Walmart store and ordered a cake with the Confederate flag and the words, “heritage not hate.” His request was denied. Then he went to another Walmart store and ordered a cake with an ISIS flag. They filled the order. Chuck kept his rejection slip and his receipt for the cake delivered.
Last week, Walmart announced they would stop selling Confederate flag merchandise. Now, Mr. Netzhammer wants to know if they are going to stop selling ISIS flag merchandise. A spokesman said, “The cake should not have been made and we apologize.”
Shouldn’t there be a law suit here somewhere?

I Wonder
I wonder what the result would be if each member of the supreme court took a test for alzheimer’s disease? Seriously, if these appointments are for life, shouldn’t there be frequent tests to ensure mental capability?
We can’t test them for stupidity.
It's too late.

Christianity Is A Crime
This is a head up to all you Jesus believers. You are hereby given notice that you are under attack and it will get worse. Christian bakers, florist and now ministers are being sued for not conforming to secular practices. Soon to follow will be punishment for even thinking that homosexuality is a sin and you may be charged with a hate crime for voicing anything opposing the lifestyle.
Over my years I have known several gays and lesbians. I have never mistreated them, nor they me. They are people and deserve to be treated as such. But, marriage is an institution that they cannot participate in because it is not an institution of man’s law.
If government wants to join two people in a civil union, that’s okay with me. But when Christianity comes under attack, I have to stand on the winning side. The losers won’t know they lost until it’s too late.
P.S. On this subject, I would also support Jews and Muslims if they are attacked.

Nine Lawyers
The SCOTUS is now making law. In dissent to Friday’s ruling on same sex marriage, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said the Constitution had nothing to say on the subject of same-sex marriage. Justice Antonin Scalia summarized his opinion by saying the court had done away with democracy.
Reality is that we are now under the rule of nine unelected lawyers.
They are more dangerous than any other enemy we have.

The Day America Died
Write down June 26, 2015 as the day America died. The Supreme Court has overruled God. He (God) is not going to like this.
By ruling in favor of same sex marriage, the “court” has destroyed the nature of man, woman, and children. Even if you are an atheist, you should know that there is a natural order called the family. Family is the foundation of any civilization - mother, father and children. First year biology students know this. Apparently the “supreme ones” do not.
Before you argue that same sex marriage doesn’t affect the traditional family, wait a generation or even a year or less. Then with open eyes, look at the effect of the ruling. There is already discussion of multiple wives, multiple husbands and multiple whatevers.
Children are extremely impressionable. When they are taught that two mommies or two daddies are okay, they fall prey to easy recruitment. When a child from a traditional family interacts with same sex families, they learn to think it is okay if someone from the same sex approaches or even abuses you.
The “supreme ones” have just changed your life. Want to know, “how did this happen?”
Look in a mirror.

Rule #74
The official grumpy old man rules of life #74 is, “honor matters.” Honor is a “man thing.” I’m not saying that women can’t have honor or give honor, but the male of the species, understands more about honor. It is that something felt, that gives one a sense of right. A sense of doing the right thing, no matter the cost.
Honor goes beyond emotion, it extends to the very being of humanity. It is the reason that one salutes an enemy that has fought valiantly. The reason that one stands at a cemetery lot, without a show of emotion, but with a feeling that words fail.
Honor is one of the most misused words, because it only applies when something is truly honorable. That is to say, no title is deserving of the word, honor. And, so many less acts are often deemed honorable. Honor matters. If you don’t understand true honor, I guess it doesn’t matter.
To those that understand, it's as important as life.

I haven’ commented about the shooting in Charleston, South Carolina until today. First, let me say that prayers are with the families of those killed. The act demonstrates the insanity of what some people believe to be reality. Senseless is the only word I can think of.
Naturally there are the usual knee jerk reactions to such events. Ban guns and take down the Confederate flag. Personally, I don’t care if they take down the flag, except this seems to be punishing the people that had nothing to do with the shooting. The best suggestion I’ve heard so far is to put the flag in a museum.
If flags are offensive, there are some that offend me, and they need to go somewhere too. So far as more gun control goes, the same old arguments on both sides will continue for a few weeks, then die down.
The part that gets on my nerves is all the political maneuvering. I suppose I should be used to it by now, but I’m not. Who was it that put that flag up? Who was it that passed “Jim Crow” laws? And, who enacted gun control to prevent blacks from being armed? Finally, who wore the hoods in the KKK? The answer to these questions is the same. Democrats.
Now, who points fingers and tries to blame anybody and everybody while doing anything and everything to keep a race of people enslaved by dependence upon government?
Same answer.

The Difference
About a million years ago, I met Jimmy. He owned a barbeque place and I frequent such places. He and I quickly became friends and have maintained our friendship over 40 years. Because we are both philosophers, and have pretty well solved most of the world’s problems, if the world would just listen to us.
A few days ago, he and I got onto the subject of religion. Notice that I said, religion. Many of the world’s problems are created by religion. Religion has and always will divide people. Even to the point of destroying each other. Cultures and religions are the real issues, not race or class. People by nature want to dictate to others how to live their lives.
I can’t count the number of times that “religious” people have caused me misery and pain. And, they always act like it is my problem. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a problem with people sharing their beliefs, but when they knowingly do wrong under the name of their religion, I have a problem with that.
Jimmy shared he had a man at his work that came on strong to him and Jimmy politely informed him that he does not discuss religion. Then he later explained to the fellow, that he is always happy to talk about Christianity. Christianity in its truest form, is not a religion. But, when someone comes on strong in the name of Christianity, they are just being religious.
Churches, temples and mosques are full of religious people. Jimmy and I agree that we are all sinners. The trick is to try to allow Him to make you better, without you hurting anyone else.
That’s Christianity.

Lone Star Gold
Texas no longer trusts the national central bank in New York City to store our gold. The Lone Star State has kept its $1billion in gold in the hands of the Federal Reserve Bank, along with bullion from the U.S. government, foreign governments and other major organizations, whomever that may be. But, now Governor Abbott has signed legislation to set up a secure facility for the State of Texas and some citizens to store their bullion and other precious metals.
The measure was passed to save the fees charged for storing the gold. But, CBS News thinks that Texas is moving toward seceding from the union and will have to establish a new currency. That doesn’t surprise me that they think that way. Perhaps someone should explain just how far a billion dollars would go in today’s economy. They better hope that Texas doesn’t secede. We have everything we need to live well and no other state can say that.
I am writing to the Governor to tell him I have a spare room if he wants to put the gold here.

Dads Day
My ace number one daughter took us out for Sunday dinner for father’s day. We couldn’t get into the place we had chosen, because the line was out the door and there literally wasn’t a parking space within half a mile. I suppose a lot of dads have the same taste buds I do.
Dads day isn’t a big deal like mothers day. Dads are just some guys that stand around and be gruff with a look of disbelief on their face, so they don’t get all the hoopla. Yet, they are extremely important to the upbringing of a child. And, I’m not talking about changing diapers, cleaning up puke or all that other stuff. Fathers are not good mothers. Let that sink in.
Dads have the job of protecting, providing and praying. That is, if one is a good dad. They are to teach right and wrong, and encourage the child to follow the teaching. Theirs is the hand on the helm of the ship, with a forever watchful eye for any storm brewing. Dads stay, no matter what and see the family through whatever comes. Believe me, that takes a lot of love, forgiveness and dedication.
Today’s society tell you that dads should be mothers. It is little wonder why so many men just walk away from the family. They don’t know how to be mothers, and are incapable of learning something so foreign to their nature.
Dads are made to ensure that there’s food on the table, a warm bed, clothes to wear, and where ever you are, you are safe.
It’s a job that gives children assurance, that love is not always spoken, but is deeper than mere words can express.

Sdam Said It
From what I’ve leaned about early American history, Samuel Adams just may be the man that started the American Revolution. He was supposedly hard headed and determined, but dedicated to free himself from the bonds of England’s rule.
Old Sammy was a smart man. He knew and understood that if the new nation was to survive, it would depend upon the individual citizen to stand erect with a set of morals that would support laws formed to make this a free and independent nation. And, he gave warning, what would happen, if the people did not.
"Neither the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt." —Samuel Adams
I think Samuel would be alarmed today and Paul Revere would have to ride again.
“The progressives are coming. The progressives are coming.”

What Would You Give
If it were in your power to give the same gift to those you encounter in your life, what would that gift be? Notice, I said the same gift. One size fits all. Perhaps if you were really rich, you could give money. Or, maybe you would have the power to give good health. Then, there’s the thought of good looks. I could use some of that. For that matter, I could use money and good health too.
If I could give the same gift to everyone I encounter, I would give them laughter.
Laughter is the best medicine, no matter how you look, or how much money you have.
It’s magic. Real magic.

Freedom From Religion
Anne Gaylor died a few days ago. Never heard of her? She and her daughter, Annie, founded the freedom from religion foundation. The organization, also an advocate for abortion, gay rights, and other anti religion efforts, has continued to fight for freedom from religion. Recently the tiny town of Hawkins, Texas came under fire for a sign placed on city property. The sign says, “Jesus Welcomes You To Hawkins.”
It is time, if you have the capacity to understand, exactly what freedom from religion would really mean. First, all of the laws that matter, are based upon one religion or another. Freedom from religion would mean that it is okay to kill, steal, or do anything you feel like, without any repercussions. It would mean that a child would grow up not knowing or caring what is right or wrong. Do not be so naive as to think that people would come up with their own rules that would make society liveable.
This country was founded on the premise of freedom of religion. Through out history, there are countless examples of what happens when people live under the laws of man.
In our little world today, North Korea would be an example of freedom from religion. ISIS on the other hand is the best example of government mandated religion. Either you believe or you die. The issue of separation from church and state is in place to prevent government from dictating a religion. It does not mean that government has to distance itself from the symbols from which a civilized society has come forth. Nor does it mean that a man or woman has to change their religious beliefs if it offends someone.
I suspect that Anne Gaylor is regretting her choice now.

Worse Than Smoking
I did not know there was anything worse than smoking. If you believe all the claims about the dangers of smoking, you should also believe that the sky really is falling. I’m not trying to defend smoking, but please, the way people react to smoking is worse than the reaction to multiple murders.
And, in case you missed it, sitting is now equal to or worse than smoking. Sitting can cause cancer, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and who knows what else. I’m guessing that if you are sitting down while you read this, you had better read fast or it may be too late for you.
With all the health Nazis today, one cannot sit, eat anything but broccoli, drink anything but imported bottled water, go outside, stay inside, breathe or smoke. That’s why I don’t fit into the “enlightened” society. I am typing this while I sit and smoke a cigarette after finishing a bacon sandwich, chips and a cola.
I may not live to be 100, but I will enjoy life like I did.

Your Choice
The City of Spokane had a problem. The president of the city’s NAACP chapter may have violated the city’s code of ethics because she is white. Rachel Dolezai identifies herself as African-American, although both her parents are white. Maybe the city’s concerns are over now that Ms. Doezai has resigned. But, will she continue to be black? Perhaps she should sue the city?
I don’t understand why anyone would be upset. Ms. Dolezai has just made a choice to be something she is not. Hey, Bruce Jenner says he is a woman and he/she/it gets praised for being courageous.
How about the guy in the White House who says he is black, when he is bi-racial and was raised by his white mother and white grandparents. Maybe he should resign.
Today, it appears that one can be what ever one chooses to be, unless it is counter to the liberal mind set. They do make the rules on what is what or is not.
If I wasn’t so lazy, I would identify as a black reverend and not pay my taxes.
I would look good flying around in a private jet.

Open Carry - Why Not
It’s gonna be gun tot’in time in Texas. When the governor signs off an open carry bill, about January, those that posses a concealed carry license, will be able to walk down the street with a big old Colt 45, just like in the old west. While opponents of the measure assure everyone there will be gunfights in the streets, it ain’t gonna happen. However, for licensed carriers, there are some things to consider before strapping on your Wyatt Earp six shooter.
First there is the issue of why would anyone want to display a gun in public. All that will get you is attention that you don’t want. And, if you happen to be in a place that is about to be robbed, you become target number uno. Secondly, so long as your legal weapon is concealed, the bad guys don’t know you have it, and the good guys don’t get all upset. And, if the police are called out where you are present, you become a suspect, instantly, until proven innocent.
Because businesses can prohibit the carrying of firearms, there will likely be a host of signs that go up, where before a licensee could carry with no problem.
Under the proposed legislation, if you have a concealed weapon, a.k.a. gun, and it is accidentally revealed, you don’t have to prove that you didn’t display the gun as a threat to someone. That’s the only positive I’ve seen so far.
Personally, I don’t want anyone to know when I am carrying a gun.
As long as I know, that’s enough.

Five Steps
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has a short publication titled, “SAVED: Five Steps For Making Financial Decisions.” SAVED is an acronym for, Stop, Ask, Verify, Estimate and Decide. This is a simple guide to follow before buying a financial product or service.
Stop and give yourself time to make a good decision. Ask questions about costs and risks. Verify that you’ve gotten the answers to your questions and double check those answers. Estimate the true cost before you invest. And, finally, decide after you’ve done the homework.
These steps are good advice for other expenditures too, like buying a car, a house or any large investment.
However, I have discovered you may not want to take all the steps in places like the grocery store or fast food place.
When you estimate the true cost including calories, it may make it tough to decide.

Over Paid
I want to remind you that this blog is about whatever happens to cross my mind at the moment I sit down to write. Be assured that I filter out most of what’s on my mind before I start typing.
My friend, the Rite Reverend Dr. Wild Bill, formerly of the First Get Down With Your Bad Self Church of What’s Happening Now, retired last year. Since then he has been traveling about and working on his lean-to in really rural East Texas. But, now I’ve been told, by him, that he has taken another church to pastor.
It is a small congregation, much smaller than what he is used to. I don’t really know what he’s getting paid, but he is mowing the lawn too. If the pulpit committee had asked me, I would have given them wise counsel. Without the lawn mowing, you’re not getting a good deal. I shouldn’t say that. Truth is I really don’t know how good he is at mowing.
Maybe he should pay them and furnish the gas and mower.

4th Verse
June 14th is Flag Day. I will be flying my flag, as I do everyday. But, I must confess that because I fly the flag and see the flag elsewhere, I sometimes forget what the flag is all about. It is certainly the symbol of the United States, but exactly what does that mean? Simply put, it means that the flag stands for unity, of course, all the lives that have been lost in defense of his country, and for what the founding fathers agreed upon to keep this country free and apart from those that would rule over us.
We all know, or should, the words to the Star Spangled Banner. At least, we know the first verse of that poem penned by Francis Scott Key. But, there are four verses. The following is the fourth.
O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov’d home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with vict’ry and peace may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto – “In God is our trust,”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall waveO’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Did you catch the part about praising the power that has preserved us a nation and our motto, “In God is our trust?” Those are the words necessary to illustrate what it takes for the star spangled banner in triumph to wave.
Think about that on Flag Day. You may see the flag a little differently - everyday.

A Simple Truth
Someone sent me an email with a bunch of those “sayings” in it. Sometime I read them, sometime I don’t. But, this one caught my attention, “Nothing is impossible if you don’t know what you are talking about.”
Pretty well sums up Washington D.C.

Rules 10 & 11
Have you ever been in fight? Most boys get into fights while growing up, and most of the time, there is no serious injury. But, a fight can get real serious when you get to be an adult, even when there are no weapons involved. Which brings us to two grumpy old man rules of life.
Rule #10, “Don’t fight if there is a way out.” It doesn’t matter who tries to start the fight, nor if you are in the right and the other person is wrong in every way. Apologize even if it is not your fault. Try to do whatever will please the other person to avoid a fight. Be in control and defuse the situation. If after all your efforts, there has to be a fight, then go to rule #11.
Don’t fight fair, fight to win.

Remodeling
My financial controller is remodeling both baths in our lean-to. It all started with a leak in the master bath shower and has evolved into the largest construction project in Texas. We’re talking replacing everything including the toilet paper holders.
The shower that leaked is now going to be a closet and the tub that didn’t leak is going to be a new king size shower. I didn’t know that when you have a shower leak, you have to replace the vanity tops, but, you do. When you change the granite tops, you have to have new faucets. And, the list goes on and on and on. My solution was a lot cheaper.
Put a porta-potty in the back yard and a shower head on the garden hose.

Didn't Happen
According to the US Census Bureau Population clock, there are over 321 million people in this country. There’s a baby born every 8 seconds, someone dies every 13 seconds, someone immigrates every 32 seconds, so we have a net gain of one person every 13 seconds. I’m not sure what all this means, but if people would quit dying, we’d gain two people every 13 seconds.
The important thing is that everyday, there are over 321 million people in this country that don’t kill anybody.
And, although an exact number is impossible to determine, there are about 300 million guns in America. I am happy to report that not one gun jumped up and shot anyone all by itself on any day - ever.
Now you know, don’t you feel better?

Income Equality
According to a poll by the NY Times and CBS, six out of ten Americans say that wealth should be divided more evenly. They say that only a few people at the top have an opportunity to advance.
There are a couple of interesting facts about this poll. First, you have to think about who conducted the poll. And, the same poll says that 60% of Americans are not in favor of raising the minimum wage.
It all boils down to, “I want government to take from somebody and give it to me.” Not because I earned it or have special skills to earn more.
North Korea has income equality.
That doesn’t appear to work very well.

First To Go
It has been said that as you age, two things happen. The first thing is that you lose your memory. I forget what the second one is. Such is the case around my house. My financial controller and I have terrible memory problems. For example, in a rare tender moment recently, she said, "I’ve loved you as long as I can remember." My response was, "That only goes back to this morning."
I need to remember to keep my mouth shut.

I Know Why
I know why so many millions of people don’t take any interest in government. Will Rogers said, "I don’t make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts." People just don’t believe what our government actually does. And, they sure don’t want any of whatever those politicians have, to rub off on them.
It is beyond normal comprehension to process how stupid people become when they get elected. And, you truly cannot fix stupid, so most folks just have a blank stare when asked about what Congress does. However, Mr. Rogers believed that we should try to direct the poor lost souls in government.
"Write to your Congressman. Even if he can’t read, write to him." - Will Rogers

Sheep Dogs
In a scene from the movie, "American Sniper," a young Chris Kyle is told by his father that there are three kinds of people in the world. There are sheep, which generally have no idea of what’s going on. Next, there are wolves which are evil and will destroy the sheep. But, there are the sheep dogs. A sheep dog’s job is to protect the sheep at all cost. "We are sheepdogs," Mr. Kyle told his son.
I had never heard this phrased quite this way, but I understand what he said. What he didn’t say was how hard it is to be a sheep dog. The wolves will try anything to get to the sheep including launching vicious attacks in packs to kill the dogs. And, sheep don’t like sheep dogs. The dogs try to keep them from getting killed and that prevents them from doing what they want to do.
Chris Kyle was a sheepdog and he suffered the cost. We need a lot more like him in everyday life. A few to protect the sheep would make this world a better place. Before you say something, I am not talking about shooting people, but am pointing out the need for protection of the masses from themselves and those wolves in sheep’s clothing.
There are lots of wolves.

Free TV
Back in the day - about a million years ago - television was free. All you had to do was buy a set and put up an antenna. Slowly but surely, cable came and offered more channels and better quality at a reasonable price. Then satellite came along and offered service where ever one wanted. You didn’t have to be near a cable service. The price was slightly higher, but there were more channels. Fast forward to today and things have changed dramatically.
Cable TV and satellite now offer hundreds of channels at ridiculous prices. And, I might mention that most of the channels are audio, not video. The monthly rental fees for equipment and other fees and taxes now drive the cost of TV service up to over $100 or more per month. If you are old like me and only watch televison a couple of hours per day, and only a few channels, it is a major rip off. Yes, I could go back to an antenna, but in this area, that is not an option.
The point is that cable and satellite are struggling as more and more people are switching to streaming on the internet, because that is where the next generation lives.
If these services want to survive, they need to adjust to select TV, a plan where you get select channels and pay a fair monthly fee that is fixed without constant price increases.
How long before they realize that? Probably never.
Until it’s too late.
