Freedom From Religion

Anne Gaylor died a few days ago.  Never heard of her?  She and her daughter, Annie, founded the freedom from religion foundation.  The organization, also an advocate for abortion, gay rights, and other anti religion efforts, has continued to fight for freedom from religion.  Recently the tiny town of Hawkins, Texas came under fire for a sign placed on city property.  The sign says, “Jesus Welcomes You To Hawkins.”

It is time, if you have the capacity to understand, exactly what freedom from religion would really mean.  First, all of the laws that matter, are based upon one religion or another.  Freedom from religion would mean that it is okay to kill, steal, or do anything you feel like, without any repercussions.  It would mean that a child would grow up not knowing or caring what is right or wrong.  Do not be so naive as to think that people would come up with their own rules that would make society liveable.

This country was founded on the premise of freedom of religion.  Through out history, there are countless examples of what happens when people live under the laws of man.

In our little world today, North Korea would be an example of freedom from religion.  ISIS on the other hand is the best example of government mandated religion.  Either you believe or you die.  The issue of separation from church and state is in place to prevent government from dictating a religion.  It does not mean that government has to distance itself from the symbols from which a civilized society has come forth.   Nor does it mean that a man or woman has to change their religious beliefs if it offends someone.

I suspect that Anne Gaylor is regretting her choice now.
