Interesting

Back in the sixties when the war in Vietnam began, soldiers were cursed, spat upon and called “baby killers.”  Direct troop involvement in that ended in 1973, and it was 1975 when Saigon fell.  Roe vs Wade was ruled constitutional in January 1973.

Vietnam vets came home and were treated like scum.  It is only now they are beginning to get recognized for their service.  Meanwhile, those same protesters that hated the war, have been responsible for the deaths of over 50 million babies.  Hey, they have the right to kill babies.

The vets eventually blended into society, got jobs and tried to deal with the problems of war on their own.  But, some of those that called them “baby killers’ went on to continue with their destruction of human kind for personal gain and fame.  They went into politics.

Interesting, isn’t it?

How Stupid?

The rhetorical question of the day is, “How stupid can some people be?”  A four year old boy falls into a gorilla habitat at a zoo and the big news is, “Did the gorilla have to be killed?  Why couldn’t the zoo response team just tranquilize the 400 pound gorilla that was dragging the child around?”

Even after an animal behavior expert stated that the right call was to protect the human child, the diatribe  on social media supporting the animal was insane.  It doesn’t matter whose fault it was for the child to fall into the habitat, or what should have been done to prevent such an occurrence.  The only thing that mattered in the brief minutes they had was to take down the animal.  A gorilla can literally rip arms and legs off a person in seconds.

Just when I think people can’t get any crazier, they prove me wrong again.  We should get their names so if they should ever be in a similar spot, everyone will know not to shoot the gorilla.

It is so true, “You can’t fix stupid.”

Memorial Day

I can’t help it, I get a bit emotional and deadly serious on Memorial Day when I think about the lives that have been sacrificed for this country.  There’s been well over a million lives given for freedom since 1776, and that number continues to grow year after year.

This year I’ve read that Veterans sites in California, Kentucky and Virginia have been damaged.  Graffiti  extensively defaced one memorial, a display of crosses run down by a driver who was caught but released, and a national battlefield was looted.  There are other reports of flags being ripped up and broken into.  And, unless there is change, this behavior will only get worse.  What would it take to change?  You don’t want to know, because you would not believe it.  Until it happens.

Not one of those that have given all wanted to die.  I am confident of that.  But, they did because they believed what they were doing was worth it.  And, those that did not die, but came home to live with what they had experienced, are faced with a few people grateful for their service, but more that either don’t know, don’t care or hate them for it.

We can all be thankful that we still have men and women that are willing to sacrifice their lives if necessary to protect the freedoms we have.

We owe those that served before and those that serve today our gratitude and the respect they deserve.

Memorial Day - A day to remember and give thanks.

Graduation

Youngest granddaughter is now officially a high school graduate.  She walked across and got her diploma today (Saturday) and will leave tomorrow (Sunday) for vacation in Florida for a week.  Then it’s back to register for college.  Next, she takes off to New York for a week with a theater group.  All this makes me tired just typing about it.

As usual, I forgot that I am in East Texas, so I attended the graduation ceremony overdressed.  I had on both a shirt and shoes.  And, I don’t have a single tattoo.

Because she reads this blog from time to time, I offer the following for her and all the other graduates.  It contains many metaphors so read it carefully.

It is your time to fly, like a little bird that has finally gotten all its feathers.  Time to take flight and find your own worms and bugs.  Time to see beyond the nest and marvel at all the wonders and overcome all your fears.  It is not easy to leave the nest, but you will do just fine.  Just remember to hunker down during the storms and fly to the sky on bright sunny days.  But, don’t fly so fast that you miss the most important things, like where the cat is hiding or who fills up the bird feeder with the best seeds.  Make your own nest and put it where you will be safe and snug.  Hone your instincts and remember what you learn.  Find you spot and live free.

And, when you fly by the old nest at granddads.  Stop for a visit.  I’ll fix up a plate of “gloopy glop with cheese on top” - your favorite worm dish.

Congratulations.  You did it.

And, you will do a whole lot more.

Love and Hugs.

Climate Change

Do you believe in global warming or climate change as it is called now?  Furthermore, do you believe that the weather is controlled by humans?  Well, you better believe it or someone will come and take you away.  You are not allowed to not believe.  Yes, there are circumstances where one could be fined or imprisoned for not swallowing the propaganda, hook, line and sinker.

But, wait!  There are more scientist that say that it is all a bunch of horse hockey than there are that drink the cool aid.

Be not confused people.  How can you doubt Al Gore, the anointed one that flies around in the world spewing fumes from his big jet, proclaiming that you shall not have a barbeque in the back yard.  Al would never lie.

Remember, he is the guy that invented the internet.

Remember

Monday, May 30th, is Memorial Day - a day to remember and say thank you.  Please fly your flag, but use the protocol that is different from other holidays.

The flag should be raised to the top at sunrise, then quickly lowered to half staff.  At noon, the flag is returned to full staff.

Take a moment to remember those that gave their all.

You owe your freedom to them.

Zero Percent

What really happens when one gets zero percent financing for a car, appliances, or a lot of other things?  You just need to remember, ‘there is no such thing as a free lunch.’  Business cannot operate with free financing, in some cases for up to five years.  It costs to have money tied up for an extended period of time.  And, guess who is really paying that expense.

Contrary to what some people want to think, businesses must make a profit to stay in business.  And, to increase their sales, a business will use many marketing tactics.  One of them is the illusion of zero percent financing.

It is quite simple.  The seller just raises the cost of an item, and adds fees and penalties should the buyer miss a payment, or some other fault in the contract.  So, the real result is that one must pay a higher price for an item and even those that do not use the offered zero percent also pay the higher price.  The end result for the seller is higher profits on all sides.

I have told the story before about my friend that had a store which offered some toy trucks for $1 each.  They were not selling very well, so he put them in a big basket and placed a sign on them, two for $5.  He sold all of them.

The moral of this story is also simple.

Think before you buy and make a commitment.

Resign Now

The Secretary of  Veterans Affairs, Bob McDonald should resign immediately if not sooner.  His comments about veterans waiting for medical services, sometimes for years,  is like waiting in line at Disneyland, only demonstrates his total lack of understanding of what he is supposed to be doing.  Helping our Veterans.

There are numerous confirmed reports of Vets dying while waiting to get medical care.  Nobody is reported to have died waiting in line to take a ride in Disneyland.

A message for Bob: Disneyland allows those with disabilities to not have to wait.  They get to move to the front of the line.

Maybe you should get a job there and learn how to treat people that deserve special and immediate attention.

Ashamed

In all my years of being on this earth, I have taken great pride in being an American.  Unlike Michelle Obama, who said when she got to be a White House resident and spend tax money like crazy, it was the first time she was proud of America, I find myself now ashamed of America.

First, I don’t know what kind of American I am.  There are so many hyphenated American and I don’t consider myself to be any of them.  Second, I find myself still thinking for myself, and that is rare.  Government tells you what to think and do, and don’t do. The world is in serious turmoil and not only do people not care, America is focused on letting the boys into the girls restrooms and locker rooms.  Is there no one else that is embarrassed by that?

A country that was once strong and respected by the rest of the world is now laughed at.  No one is afraid of us, especially a handful of radical terrorist that could be stopped in a couple of days.  We once stood for right and wrong, but now we only stand for political correctness, no matter how wrong it may be.  We were a land of religious freedom.  Today, Christian values, that built this country, are attacked daily and the attackers are hailed as heroes.

Our schools teach social engineering, instead of the basics of what it takes to contribute to society to maintain and build upon the greatest economy in history.

We have elected leaders that I would not want to be alone in a room with.  And, they are hailed as wonderful by the populous.  At least those that want government to provide them with everything that working people struggle for.

The list could go on and on, but it is sickening to think about.  Yes, there are some that still believe that somehow, like magic, everything will be like it was designed to be.  But, it will take more than magic.  It would take a miracle.

No, I won’t give up on America.

But, I’m still ashamed of what it has become.

Hot !!

Comedian Jeff Foxworthy sometimes includes in his comedy concert, a story about visiting his in-laws.  He says his mother-in-law keeps the house a comfortable 100 degrees.  That’s 37.8 degrees Celsius for those on the metric system.

Jeff tells of getting down on the floor in the bathroom and putting his face on the tile floor to try to find something cool.  And, he also points out that his mother-in-law walks around the house with a sweater on and says, “Is anyone else cold, or is just me.?

I can relate.  My mother-in-law, bless her heart, would freeze at Mr. Foxworthy’s in-laws house.  But her place does come in handy if I need to slow cook something like a brisket or a turkey.  Just take it over there and sit in on the table, and in about eight hours it’s done.  You do have to watch the time, because anything longer will burn the meat.

I am convinced that mother-in-law will go to heaven when she dies, but should she not make it, hell is going to get a lot hotter.

As soon as she gets there, she’s going to turn up the thermostat.

(Speaking of hell, I am going to catch some for writing this)

Not Yet

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin vetoed the bill to ban abortions in Oklahoma.  Not because she opposed the measure, but because the law would, according to her, be too vague to enforce.

Ms. Fallin is reportedly pro-life, but she is also a politician.  Who is to say what will happen next.  If the Senate measure is rewritten and presented again, will she veto again?

Regardless of the outcome, there appears to be resistance to Washington and those that choose to end a life.

Keep your eyes on the horizon.  States are slowly, but surely beginning to stand up.

No matter what the cost.  Remember, freedom is not free.

Okla'bygod'homa

As an old song says, “Something is happening here.  What it is ain’t exactly clear.”  Or, maybe it is clear.  People are fed up with Washington, and are starting to push back.

Several states have refused to abide by resident Obama’s, decree on transgender restrooms.  Can this mean that some people have gotten a shot of common sense?

And, Oklahoma is trying to pass a law prohibiting abortions in that state.  If the governor signs the bill, that passed the Senate without discussion by a vote of 33 to 12, doctors will be charged with a felony for performing abortions.

Elsewhere, states are pushing back on illegal immigration, forcing clergy to perform same sex marriages,  and free speech as provided by the First Amendment.

Way to go Oklahoma.  Or, as they were called when I was younger, “Okla’bygod'homa.

It’s a start on restoring sanity to America.

Qualification For President

If you had to pick one critical qualification for anyone that runs for President of The United States, what would that be?  It is very simple when you think about it.

He/She must be on America’s side, with total commitment to the citizens that make this country work.

It’s been awhile since we’ve had anyone like that.

Wizard

“Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain,” is a line from the movie “Wizard of Oz.’  Today, it’s pay no attention to what’s really going on in D.C., just focus on letting the boys and girls use the same restroom.

What is Obama’s obsession with transgenders?  Is he planning to make a change or is this just another one of his tricks behind the curtain?   One this is for sure.  We are not in Kansas anymore.

Or anywhere else in the United States.

If you’ve read at least one newspaper, listened to one radio news broadcast or watched the networks talking heads, you surely recognize that their primary objective is to destroy Donald Trump.  So, you should be able to understand why the following headlines could happen.

TRUMP WALKS ON WATER - EPA to investigate dirty shoes

Trump takes vow of poverty and donates his wealth to charity - Still refuses to release his tax returns

Trump makes sexist remark - calls woman a beautiful lady

Trump can’t explain the laws of physics

Trump incompetent to perform brain surgery

Rule #45

From the grumpy old man list of “Life Rules” comes #45 today.  “Stand up for something right.”

Just imagine what this country would be like if everyone stood up for something right.

Okay, I admit it would take awhile to teach about half the country what is right and wrong.

Have A Good Day

I am a big fan of Mark Twain.  He was a man of tremendous insight and humor.  As a terrible business man, he did whatever it took to overcome his failures.  So, today we have a Twain quote on how to face each day and make it a good day.

“Eat a live frog first thing in the morning, and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.”
-Mark Twain-

If you try it, please let me know how it worked.

Class Action Law Suit

This is a message for every parent in America.  If your child, or you, are subjected to a member of the opposite sex using the same rest room as you, then you are advised to file a class action suit against the government, or the place of business.  By filing a class action suit, you will be opening the door to the majority of people that are offended and/or are traumatized by such actions.  Or, you can file a stand alone suit and set the precedent for hordes of others to follow.

The suit(s) should be filed against the federal government and individuals perpetrating the action and any business such as Target that promotes the practice.  Be sure to gather evidence, such as date, time, place and what happened including cell phone photos if possible.  Get medical records and cost for those traumatized and their prognosis.

Remember that small children, girls and boys, have enough sense to know the action is wrong and may experience fear and confusion for sometime.

Do not give up if you take action.  You’ll have an excellent case and even if silently 99.99999999% of the population will support your efforts.

Make insanity very expensive for the perpetrators.

Eventually they will go broke.

Too Young

It is not legal for a child, up to 17, to vote, enter into a legal contract, buy alcohol, or make any major decisions affecting their lives or the lives of others.  For most of them, it’s hard to decide what to wear, and they don’t get that right most of the time - according to me.  Anyway, you get the idea.  Children are not mature enough to make critical decisions.

How then, can they decide if they want to be transgender?  Truth is, they can’t.  It may sound like a good idea at the time, but in the long run, it can, and will, be one of those stupid things young people do.  Everyone has regrets about something they did when they were children.  If you think you don’t, then you need to work on telling the truth.

It is adults that are driving the insane movement to let boys and girls decide what they are and where they want to go pee.

That my friends, is child abuse.

And those adults should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Now I Know

As mentioned before, I do most of the shopping at our house.  I do this for two reasons.  First, I started making the shopping trips to take more of the household chores when I retired, and my financial controller was still working.  Secondly, and most important, when I shop, I save thousands.  If it ain’t on my shopping list, I don’t need it.  No browsing and impulse buying.

My grocery trips are always at the store about two miles from home.  It is one of a large chain of stores, and the selection is usually pretty good.  The store personnel are obviously trained on being friendly to the customers.  I’ve been going there so long now, some cashiers call me by name even before I whip out my “rewards card.”

This week, as I was checking out, the cashier asked the same question they all, always ask, “Did you find everything you wanted?”  My usual response is, “Yes,” and we go on with business.  But, this time, I said “No.”  The cashier completely ignored my answer.  She didn’t ask what I had needed or say “sorry” or anything.

Now, I know what happens if you say “No.”

Maybe they’ll add that part to the training in a few more years.

What If?

What if we had an organization that is supposed to protect consumers by acting as an arbitrator between its members and a consumer?  The organization would take complaints and contact companies (members) to resolve issues that the consumer is unable to resolve.  And, the organization would rate companies on a scale from A+ to F so consumers would be able to check out a company online before doing business with them.

What if the organization was supported by fees from the companies they rate and present complaints to?  And, what if the more a company pays, the easier it would be to maintain an A+ rating?

Sounds familiar does it?

Attack On Christians

Martin Niemöller (1892-1984) was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps.  Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for the quotation:

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Americans are already conditioned not to speak out about the attack on Christianity, in fear of what might happen if they do.  New York City mayor Bill deBlasio openly attacked Chick-fil-a because of their support of marriage being between one man and one woman.  He has urged citizens not to patronize their new location in “his” city.  Obama’s DOJ is attacking North Carolina for their “bathroom” law.  And, if you open one eye or listen with one ear, you will see and hear daily attacks on Christian beliefs.

Yet, for a few, like Franklin Graham, who stands against the attack with his defense of Chick-fil-a, why is that not outrageous action to stop what is so obvious?

Perhaps it will take Mr. Graham being cast into a concentration camp to convince some people.

But, then it will be too late.

Don't Believe It

The preacher was trying to make a point Sunday, about what do you believe.  Because we are inundated with electronic information, he illustrated how people today see the internet as the source for news and information.

“You believe it because you saw it on the internet,” he said.  “Surely, you don’t believe what you read on the internet, do you?

The sad thing is that almost all of us use the internet and do believe what we see and read.

Rush Limbaugh has pointed out that far too many people believe the news they see on “Fakebook” as he calls it.

All I can say to the preacher and to Rush is, Amen.

Why Not?

It goes without saying, that my neighbors think I am a little bit crazy.  When one asked me about what to do to kill weeds, I calmly suggested they use diesel in a pump up sprayer.  “That will kill everything,” they said.  “Exactly,” was my reply.  “Do you want to kill weeds or not?”

Almost every weekend, I cook out on my charcoal grill.  I have a wood chip smoker box that gives the food a wonderful flavor - if you use pecan wood chips.  Another neighbor usually is out on their patio when I am cooking and will yell over the fence when the smoke starts to roll over the fence.  They always want to know “What’s for dinner?”

This week, I got the grill really smoking and ran over to the gate on our privacy fence.  I jerked the gate open and frantically looked about for something.  The neighbors look at me as if to ask, “What are you doing?”  Then, I shouted, “Did you see a squirrel run this way?”

They replied, “No.”  “If you see him, run him back this way,” I said and went back inside the gate.

Why do I do things like this to my neighbors?

Why Not?

Chicken And Gravy

I suppose that everyone has unique memories of their mother, living or deceased.  Mothers are strange creatures, and each one is unique.  My mother died many years ago at age 59.  She was walking down the hallway at home and fell dead.

She was not an educated person, but then one doesn’t have to be educated to be a mother.  She did the best she could with what she had to do with and we all survived.

The one thing that sticks in my mind is fried chicken and gravy.  Nobody could cook fried chicken like she did and absolutely no one could make cream gravy like her.  To this day, I do not eat cream gravy because I still hold on to what it is really supposed to taste like.

It took about an hour to fry a chicken in a cast iron skillet.  It was always crispy.  She would drain the skillet, but leave little bits of chicken crispies in the skillet.  Then she would make gravy.  When you add that to real massed potatoes, you have a meal that lasts a lifetime.

To this day, I would give thousands of dollars for some of that fried chicken and gravy.

No, I would not share.  Not even a bite.

To all - Happy Mothers Day.

Cease Fire

As an observer by nature and training, here’s another one of my wonderful observations.  The GOP is an unorganized parade of clowns.  They just can’t help but reaching out and snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.  Trump is going to be the candidate, but the establishment isn’t giving up trying to defeat him.  If only they put so much effort in defeating Hillary.

Speaker Paul Ryan says he’s not ready to support the “Donald,” yet.  Others have come out against the clear winner in this horse race with some even saying they will not vote as a protest.  Are these people so stupid that they don’t understand that not to vote is a vote for the Democrats?  The correct answer is “Yes.”  They are that stupid.  That’s why millions are now standing up against them and the DC machine.

Perhaps the Republicans should just cease fire on shooting themselves in the foot.

But, it looks like they are reloading.

No Tow

A tow truck driver in Asheville, North Carolina refused to tow a car with a Bernie Sanders bumper sticker, according to a report by Fox.  The driver said that he was not going to serve anyone with a Sanders sticker and that he is voting for trump.  Before you jump up and say this is discrimination, don’t.  Political affiliation is not a protected class.

The tow driver told the woman seeking to get her car moved, that obviously she was a socialist and should call the government to come and get her.

Hillary supporters know, or should know, not to call when they are in trouble.

Just ask the family of Christ Stevens what happens when you call Hillary for help.

Reality TV

Ted Cruz and John Kasich have dropped out of the race for Prez, leaving the “Donald” to run to the finish  line.  Grandpa Bernie can’t be far behind to jumping off the track on the Democrat side, leaving “Hill Dawg” to marvel the masses with her shouting.

Folks, reality TV ain’t got nothing on politics.  So, you need to stay tuned as the season unfolds.  But, be warned, the script has been written for a big finale.  You won’t want to miss a single episode.
Just be prepared for the surprise ending.

Hourly Pay

If you work, how much do you make per hour?  Most of my working years, I earned a salary.  Not an hourly wage.  I did calculate how much I made per hour on one job and decided that I could not work that cheap.  So, I never calculated hourly pay again, because I was afraid I might discover I had taken a pay cut.

Liberals like to talk about income inequality, but the ones that talk are the biggest earners among those they condemn.  Every year, Parade Magazine does a report on what people earn.  Dale Earnhart, Jr. earns about $23.8 million or $11,442 per hour, based upon a 40 hour work week.  Chef Gordon Ramsay makes $28,846 per hour.  Robert Farmer, a surf instructor, earns $8.17, while a chief justice on the Supreme Court hauls in$124.09.  He needs to go into private practice.

An Army Ranger captain is up there with $41.14 per hour.  Doubtful she ever has a 40 hour week.  Using the 40 hour week, Peyton manning knocks out $89,428 an hour, but he gets paid during half time.  Actors, that love to tell everyone everything about anything bring home millions - mega millions.  But, hey, if it were not for them, how would we know right from wrong.  They tell us every day.

It’s the poor politicians that really struggle.  A one hour speech can roll in $250,000.  Hillary can’t remember how much she makes.  I think the records were on the server that crashed.

One thing is for sure, if we could get the burger flippers up to say $100 per hour, everything would even out sooner or later.

Ha,ha,ha..... sometimes I crack myself up.

Cleaning Lady

We have a cleaning lady that comes once per month.  This idea was introduced to me by my financial controller as a temporary plan to help while she was still working.  The problem is that she no longer has a paying job, but is ten times as busy.  I think she may be planning to increase the lady’s schedule.

One might ask, “Why don’t I do the house cleaning?”  The answer is, “That would be more expensive than hiring someone to clean.”

The lady is very nice, but after the year or so we’ve used her, I still don’t know what her name is.  She introduced herself to us by one name, but others in our little commune know her by different names.  Even the security people on the entrance gate know her by a different name.  Normally this would cause me to be very suspicious, but I have learned to just accept it.  My financial controller told me to accept it.

The lady is very nice, honest, works hard, and does a good job at a reasonable price.  The only suspicion I have is that she drives a new “used” car every few weeks.  I know she has wrecked at least one.  And, she always gets a nicer car than she had previously.

Makes me wish I had learned to clean the house.

I could use a new truck.

Prized Possession

Don’t you just hate that I always have questions?  I know I do.  But, questions are supposed to make people think.  Thinking is something that is almost impossible for most Americans to do, so I get a sadistic kick out of asking them.

The question today is serious.  What is your most prized possession?  You can’t use people or pets, because you never really own them.  I’m talking about that something that you treasure more than all your worldly possessions.  It could be your new car, grandma’s ring, or perhaps your favorite fishing lure.  It might be something you’ve had for years or something you haven’t had very long.  What ever it is, it is yours and you don’t ever want to lose it.

Because we are all human, most of us are, we tend to accumulate stuff, as George Carlin said.  In all that stuff, we have stuff that we really don’t need or want anymore.  But, a prized possession is not one of those.  Someone might seriously choose a wedding ring, a photo of someone loved, a valuable antique or who knows what.  We are all different.  But, here is what make us alike.  Our prized possession reveals a lot about who we really are.

I have two prized possessions that are hard to separate in importance.  Yes, I know that one is more important than the other, but I hate to choose.

I have a Bible presented to me by the church, and my Masonic apron.  The apron will be a part of my last remains.

I hope the Bible becomes someone’s most prized possession.

What’s your prized possession?
