Enough already of this fake news trash. While watching a news program early one morning this week there was a story about global warming (climate change) is going to destroy the trees from which come cocoa beans. Cocoa is where chocolate comes from. Therefore, the talking heads said chocolate could go away by 2050.
While I don’t plan to be here is 2050, I could already see shortages and price increases in my Twix candy bars. The climate change people had finally said something that caught my attention. So I did what I always do and did a little research. Turns out it ain’t so.
There are limited areas, rain forest, where the treasured trees can go. The best quality beans are from Ghana, West Africa, but some do go as near as southern Mexico.
Apparently the scare came from a study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration that stated we reached a tipping point in 2016 and unless major changes are made, the number of areas where cacao trees can grow will be dramatically reduced. However one researcher did add, "there is time for adaptation." Adaptation means, we can find another way to grow the beans.
They didn’t mention the details on TV.
I hope all their chocolate candy melts in their hands and not their mouths.
