Just when I think that people can’t be "that stupid," - they are. WAFF-TV in Huntsville, Alabama reports that crews from Decatur Utilities in Decatur, Alabama were turned away from helping in Seaside Heights, N.J. because they were not union employees. A New Jersey power company denied that they turned crews away from restoring electric power destroyed by hurricane Sandy. An Alabama utility clarified that it was the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers that turned them away and not the company.
The crews from Hunstville and Decatur have reportedly left the Jersey shore and headed to Long Island to work there.
Another nonunion crew from is reportedly idling in Roanoke, VA., waiting for instructions after Seaside Heights asked them to come help, but then told them to stand down.
Meanwhile while millions wait in the dark, New York mayor Bloomberg is setting up generators for the big marathon in that city.
I talked to a friend in Arlington, VA today and he confirmed the reports in Jersey. We agreed on a term for the action. INSANITY!
They'd better be glad they didn’t try to turn back some redneck crew from East Texas. There would have been a butt kicking going on.
Then they would have restored the power.
