Acorns

There is an old saying, "Even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then." My question is why they would want to? Acorns are bitter to the taste and in some cases can be toxic. Are they fit for human consumption? Yes. All you have to do is shell them and repeatedly boil them until the water no longer turns brown. Or, you can put them in a mesh bag and put them in a river until the rushing water no longer turns brown around the bag.

My point is that acorns are useless. And we have about ten trillion pounds of them. There are oak trees around the place that shed acorns year round. The tree next door has some as big as grapefruit. Maybe bigger. You do not want to be outside when they fall. It’s like a hail storm.

Back to the hog. It’s better to just dig for grubs and roots.
