I have mentioned before about how difficult it is in East Texas to get someone to do projects, like painting, plumbing, etc. The problem is that there is no competition and they all seem to know it. At best, the people you can hire are handy man level or less. Forget about licenses or insurance and don’t bother to ask them for a written estimate.
We tried working off referrals from neighbors and all that has show me is that they are satisfied with some shoddy work. And, they are adjusted to getting something done whenever the ‘contractor’ gets around to doing the job.
Perhaps I am just too picky. What does it matter if a new shower leaks? Maybe they are supposed to and I just don’t know it.
If only I wasn’t old and could still do the physical work I used to. I’m not expert in anything, but I could do better than anyone we’ve hired so far.
