There are nicknames and pet names, which are not to be confused with what you call your dog. They are terms of endearment that some people pick up in life. I have friends like Petro, Johnel, Mr. T, Hodi, Taco Bueno, Mr. K, and Person. We all know those that get nicknames that just stick, and for good or bad they are stuck with them.
Pet names are those that we assign to loved ones for one reason or another. Sugar, Honey Bunch, Squirt, Princess, are just a few that I can think of. I have assigned pet names to my girls - wife, daughter and both granddaughters. They are special names that only I can call them. And, they are names that I always call them by. As, I’ve told my youngest granddaughter, only I am allowed to call you by your pet name.
I used to call my wife, honey.
Now I call her money, because she controls it.
