I just did something that I suspect that few, if any, in Congress or the White House have done. I read the Constitution again. Back in the old days, it was required in school that we not only read it, but we had to memorize the preamble.
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a
more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic
Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote
the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to
ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this
Constitution for the United States of America.
It takes only a few minutes to read the Constitution and it is really not hard to understand. Some words are spelled differently than they are today, but the meanings are the same and clear. If only every citizen would read and understand the document that is the foundation of this country really says, it would be a different world.
Believe it or not, there is nothing in the Constitution about freedom from religion, abortion or homosexual marriage. There is the 2nd Amendment that clearly establishes the right to bear arms. And, most importantly there is nothing about being a “living document” that changes at the whim of the people or the politicians. Remember it is the foundation and one should not mess with the foundation or the structure will fall.
Take a few minutes and read it. Then tell someone else to read it.
A little commitment just might set us all back on the foundation laid by some pretty smart men.
