Let me be clear, I am not a fan of Valentine’s Day. Why is there one day set aside to show love to someone? Does that mean you don’t have to do anything the rest of the year? No!
It is unclear when or where Valentine Day started. Was it named after St. Valentine? Which one. There are at least three. Did it come about a Roman pagan celebration? Like the one where goats and dogs were killed, then skinned with the skins cut into strips, then dipped in blood after which men ran about the streets slapping women and crops with the bloody strips. How romantic is that.
If you want to know more, just look it up. You will find that in the 1840s, Esther A. Holland is responsible for the first mass produced heart shaped cards in the U.S.A.. Now it is estimated there are over 1 billion cards given each year. Add that to the candy, flowers, stuffed animals, trims and decorations and whatever else will make a buck and you have Valentine’s Day.
That’s why I offer you the only words I know that rhyme with Valentine.
Cha Ching, Cha Ching.
