Our house is older, but the appliances have been updated or they work fine. We had a home warranty when we bought the house and let it expire - that was 5 years ago. I decided that it might be well to get another warranty because I am no longer able to fix stuff like I used to. The whole ordeal has been another learning experience.
First, I did not know that the license to operate a home warranty company in Texas is issued by the Real Estate Commission. They only verify financial ability to pay claims. Next, I learned that everything on home warranty coverage must be read in great detail.
If one reads the fine print, one will find they only cover part of what they say they cover. One company boast that it covers duct work for air conditioning. In the exclusions, one will find they exclude everything that has anything to do with duct work.
Hey, not to worry. If the cook top goes out, it’s time to fire up the grill. If the AC goes out, move in with your kids.
They'll buy you a new AC and you won't be out the cost for a warranty that doesn't pay.
