Most people, if not all, are not comfortable speaking before a large group of people. Some people just can’t do it. I have been speaking to a variety of audiences for so long, that I no longer have a ‘fear,’ but am having a hard time adjusting to what you can and cannot say these days.
When I first started speaking, because I had to, I did some research and attended some training to improve my presentations. And, as a result, I will pass along a tip - Know Your Audience! It doesn’t matter what the subject is, if you don’t know who you are speaking to, you won’t get your message through to them. If you have to speak about some science to a third grade class, you have to adjust your words to their level. The same is true if you are speaking to a group of senior citizens, aka old people.
Today, most of my speaking is to older folks. Some of them are really older. And, I make adjustments to how I present information.
When learning to do public speaking, you get lots of tips, like just visualize your audience naked to overcome being nervous.
When your audience is a bunch of old people, don’t do that.
