If you have a need to buy a new appliance, washer, dryer, refrigerator, oven, cook top, microwave, etc, take some advice, don’t do it. In the past two weeks we’ve had a built in oven and a microwave go out. We were able to get the microwave repaired because it is old.
The new oven, a Whirlpool, cracks and pops as it warms up. I’m talking cracks and pops that make one think there is something major happening. Whirlpool says this is normal. Then, there’s the matter of the fan in the oven. I’ve heard helicopters that are quieter. Whirlpool says this is normal. That’s their way of saying, “You bought junk at a very high price, now you have to live with it.”
The technician that installed the oven said that new appliances are noisy and the tech that came out when we complained about the oven said the same thing. They both are independent technicians. Each of them told me that today's appliances are designed to only last a very short time - not like in the old days when a refrigerator could last 20 years or more. And, poor quality seems to be the norm.
No, it is not possible to live without modern appliances, but get them repaired as long as you can find parts. The best advice I got from the technical people was, if your microwave goes out, throw it in the trash and go buy a new one yourself.
But, you can now get a refrigerator with a TV screen built into the door. And, you can use your smart phone to dial in to a camera and see what’s on the shelves, in case you want to know.
Ain’t technology wonderful?
