I started working with computers when we had key punch cards. The machines were about the size of large freezer. Then came desktop monitors connected to a mainframe somewhere with desktops and laptops to follow. Now we have computers that are phones and even smaller. And, we have a world of instant access to worthless information.
Right now I, a grumpy old man, am trying to work with three computers, actually four, with three operating systems - Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. Trust me when I say that progress is making less and less sense. There was a time when we used Windows XP, a stable system that actually worked. But now, it is confusing to know what does what and why did that not work. The focus is on visual appeal with compound duplicity.
Being a grumpy old man, it is not easy to switch from one operating system to another. Some of the basics still exist, but the processes take much more effort to accomplish actual work.
Why didn’t we just stay with Windows 3.1?
Is there an app for that?
