That Time Of Year
It's that time of year, when our special needs granddaughter birthday rolls around. And, every year I reflect on her spirit. The following post first appeared in 2011, but is just as special today as it was then:
The doctors said she would never walk, talk or interact with other people. In the beginning they had no real diagnosis. She spent a lot of time in doctor offices, hospitals and therapy centers. But she did learn to say some words. And, because she couldn’t walk or crawl, she rolled. She rolled to the TV and by the time she was two she could operate a VCR to play the videos she wanted to watch.
As time progressed, the diagnosis came to light. She had a very rare syndrome. There are only a couple hundred others in the world. There is no treatment.
But, there is the human spirit. Today, she walks, but does not like to walk very far, especially if it is hot weather. She talks, not in sentences but in words that communicate what she wants or needs and how she feels. It is interesting that when she is really tired, she speaks in sentences. Her brain slows down and she can communicate.
She went to school and a teacher noticed that she loved books. She can read and does for hours at a time. If it is electronic, she probably can operate it. Her favorite entertainment is a computer.
She has social friends developed from school in the Special Ed class, and from just about anyone she meets. She always has a hug.
Bad days are few. Her attitude is always, "everything is okay." I wish I could say that.
Society has given her and millions of others the label of "special needs." I would argue that it is not them, but us that have special needs. We need to see them succeed, play, laugh and push harder to do anything that we take for granted. It is us that can learn more from them than they can learn from us. We don’t think we have time. They have all the time they need.
My granddaughter is twenty one now. She stays with me during the day sometimes. I know and she knows that she rules me. That’s the way it should be. I have special needs to be more understanding, more patient, more loving, more determined, and more focused on the things that are really important. She shows me how.
I am a slow learner, but she is patient with me.

The Difference
Opponents of the 2nd Amendment, in desperation, say that the amendment did not intend for citizens have guns like an AR 15 sport rifle. I’ve read the amendment and no where does it say what kind of arms one can bear. The intent is to allow citizens to protect themselves and their families from the bad guys, and from government forces if necessary.
I saw a sign this week that does well to dismiss the argument against sport rifles. It basically stated that in the beginning people had muskets and did their writing with quills onto parchment. Technology has changed all that. I don’t think that anyone writes with a quill in this computer and smart phone age, nor do they depend upon a musket for protection.
I am willing to go back to muskets.
If everyone goes back to quills and parchment paper.
[Patriot Post: "You want a liberal to tell the difference between a rifle and an assault rifle. They don’t even know the difference between male and female."]

Achoo!
Allergy season is in full swing in East Texas. That means that if you go outside you will turn yellow and die. You will turn yellow from the pine tree allergens and the molds will kill you. According to the people that measure these things, the area where my lean-to is has a score of 10.7 allergens on a scale of 12. That puts us in the top ten worse places to be. Personally, I think it must be 10000 on a scale of 12.
The problem with allergies is that almost everyone has something they are allergic to. And, more often than not, it is difficult for medical science to do much about. The article I read about our area did mention that taking a shower after staying outside will help clean your body of allergens collected. And, it mentioned to give your dogs a bath at least once per week if they go outside. Dogs have to go outside or you will have another problem inside.
The major allergy season in East Texas usually ends the 12th of never.
Then it immediately starts up again.

Military's Job
Contrary to what some would have you believe, the purpose of the military is not to reflect whatever the current leftist agenda is on any given day. The military’s job is to defend this country. That means they must be prepared and ready to kill our enemies and destroying their stuff in a way that convinces others not to do anything that threatens the security of America.
Also, contrary to what some would have you believe, not everyone is capable of doing the job. Believe it or not, the military leaders know what it takes and should not be forced by politicians to compromise requirements.
Lives depend upon it.
Theirs and yours.

Love
After reviewing several dictionaries the common for love is defined as, "a strong affection for another person." Yet, we constantly hear the word love misused in hundreds if not thousands of ways. I "love" this or that. The word love is used so loosely that one might question if it has any value at all.
I question if in today’s world if anyone truly has any understanding of what real love really means. In Hebrew the word Ahava is used as love meaning "I give." Agape from the Greek defines love as unconditional. Neither of these words has any meaning in saying, "I love this or that."
What would happen if we suddenly quit using "love" as a universal term to cover everything we like or enjoy? To truly understand the meaning of love, whether you are Christian or not, is to read John 3:16 in the Christian Bible. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Would you sacrifice your child to proclaim your love? Or, would you die for that which you "love?"
That’s what "love" means.

What Kind?
If you haven’t noticed, the media is obsessed with destroying President Trump. They attack from every direction, from Russia to previous sins. Anything they think will discredit Trump tops the news everyday. I wonder what would happen if the media were suddenly investigated by their own standards. Actually I know what would happen.
The AP reported this past week that a former Playboy model had an affair with Trump some years ago. And, this is just one account. Where was the media when Clinton was in office, where were the media? Sure, they made a case on one incident. Hillary shut that down pretty quick. JFK was know to be quiet a womanizer, but where was the media then. Trump apparently isn’t carousing in office like some of his predecessors. Could it be he has seen the actions of his past as wrong and is trying to do better?
To make matters worse, the media is trying to make the former model a victim and hero. But, in an interview she said that after she and Donald had sex, he tried to offer her money. Then she stated that she looked at him and said, "That’s not me. I am not that kind of girl." It’s a good think I was not present. I know what I would have told her.
It’s obvious what kind of girl you are.

Pet Peeves
I must have about a million pet peeves. Those little things that really grate on your nerves. The way people butcher the English language is a reflection on how students are being taught or not being taught in public schools. For those that don’t know, Texas is singular and plural. It is incorrect to use Texas’es or however it would be spelled. Just like insurance. Not insurances. Just listen to the talking heads and you will hear these used often.
I also hate to hear people speak, or write, when they don’t know how to make a simple sentence. ‘See Spot run’ is a simple sentence. What you hear today is, ‘Spot, he can run.’ What’s the subject in that phrase?
But, one irritant that is universal is ‘you guys.’ Are people so stupid that can’t tell the boys from the girls? Yes. How many times per day do you hear someone address a group of men and women or even only women with, ‘you guys.’ People, let me assure you that there is a difference between the two and it is disrespectful to address the female of the species as guys.
Men and women are different biologically, psychologically, emotionally, and have entirely different thought processes. I like the biological difference. But, I must admit after being married over 50 years, I do have some problems with the others. It’s okay, because my financial controller sees me the same way. Actually, she thinks I’m from outer space.
I understand that ‘you guys’ is a slang term. But, in this world it is likely an attempt to give the illusion that women are equal to men, or that they are inferior to men. Reality is that when a woman is referred to as a male, it takes away from being the lady she is, or should be. Ladies have always deserved special respect, so I don’t understand why they tolerate being called guys.
Yes, it irritates me to hear ‘you guys.’ But the rest of the story is, when we are out to dinner and someone comes over to take our order and says, ‘how are you guys?’, she kicks me under the table so I won’t express my thoughts.
My shins are getting calloused.

400 Million Years
The government is not going to shut down, at least until September. Congress has passed a $1.3 trillion budget. It’s going to be tough to operate the way they do on that little dab of money.
At this very moment this country is over $21 trillion in debt. I’m not sure, but I think that’s more money than I could ever count. If you want to break it down, it’s about $65,000 owed for every man, woman and child. Before it’s too late, remember, it’s never too early got get a kid a job.
The last time this country was debt free was in 1835 when Andrew Jackson was president. Those were the good ole days, when a dollar was worth a dollar.
Since these numbers are mind boggling, let’s put things another way. If we don’t accrue any more debt from this day forward - ha ha ha - it will take 400 million work years to pay off what we owe now.
Since only about half the country works, it may take a little longer.

Real Reason
Walter E. Williams has been one of my favorite people for years. He is a professor of economics at George Mason University and writes for several publications. The following is an excerpt from his latest article in the Daily Signal on the real reason we have mass shootings.
"What about the calls for bans on the AR-15 so-called assault rifle? It turns out that, according to 2016 FBI statistics, rifles accounted for 368 of the 17,250 homicides in the U.S. that year. That means restrictions on the purchase of rifles would do little or nothing for the homicide rate.
Leaders of the gun control movement know this. Their calls for more restrictive gun laws are part of a larger strategy to outlaw gun ownership.
Gun ownership is not our problem. Our problem is a widespread decline in moral values that has nothing to do with guns. That decline includes disrespect for those in authority, disrespect for oneself, little accountability for anti-social behavior, and a scuttling of religious teachings that reinforced moral values."
Dr. Williams is an 81 year old black man that is consumed with common sense. I think what I like most about him is that he thinks like I do.
Today, all that means is there are at least two more of us that are wrong.

Hollywood Thinking
Listen up men. If you make more money than a woman, then you need to give it away. At least in Hollywood, that’s the latest trend. A male actor is paid more than an actress, both in starring roles. They should be paid the same, according to the all knowing celebrities.
I know how the wild liberal minds work - they don’t like facts. What if the actor had a better manager negotiating for his pay? What if the actor was more talented - talent is subjective? Have there been actresses paid more than men? The list goes on and on.
If you are not sitting down, please do so, because I am going to tell you something that may shock you. The world is not fair. When I buy a car I negotiate a price to pay. If I get a better deal than someone else, should I have to pay more for the car? When I worked with engineers, I did some of the same things they did, but I did not have a degree in engineering. Should I have been paid the same as they were? Actually I was better in lighting design that most of the engineers I worked with.
We are now in a world that ignores a workers worth? $15 per hour to flip hamburgers makes no business sense.
When I flipped burgers I got paid almost nothing. It was more than I was worth.

Twenty One
Here’s another one of my solutions for the problems that plague our world. If one is going to have to be 21 to buy a rifle, why not take some further steps. There is no doubt that driving is dangerous to teens. Look at insurance rates for those under 21. So, let’s just make a law requires one to be 21 to drive.
Next, because there also is no doubt that violent games have an impact on behavior of yong people, we need to raise the age to 21 for playing those games. And, since the cesspool social media sites are equally damaging to young minds, visiting those sites should be dittoed.
There is evidence that smart phones and ipads are potential threats to young minds. Now may be the time to not allow anyone under 21 to have access to said devices. Well, you get the picture. It’s a dangerous world.
There absolutely must be something done to protect students in schools, but the solution does not lie with guns or the age to buy a rifle. The news around Texas today is bombings in Austin. Is this going to spark more bombings? Probably. We already have lots of laws against bombs. Obviously those don’t work.
Let me say again, the problem we have is a lack of a common culture - American - that focuses on morals, behaviors and punishment for breaking laws. Our society has lost its way. There is no higher authority governing. In fact, over the years there have been efforts to take the 10 Commandments down from pubic buildings and monuments, as well as no allowing prayer in schools. We have become a nation that does not enforce existing laws designed to protect us. What we have is a "if it feels good, do it" world.
Once more I assure you, the world is a dangerous place. There are evil people that do evil things. As Edmund Burke said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
"To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men." Abraham Lincoln.
Have we become a nation of cowards?

Monkey See - Monkey Do - Cat Too
Over the years there have been numerous trials on how to win in the stock market. You do need to understand that investing in the market is as much of a gamble as it is an investment. Or as I’ve said before, the difference between the stock market and a casino is, you don’t get free drinks in the stock market.
It has been shown time and again that "couch potatoes" can be as good and often better than professional financial advisors. And, of course there have been many "tests" with just throwing darts at stock tables.
In 2014 a "secret fund" came into being when a group of analysts with PhDs in Math, Astrophysics and Quantum Mechanics constructed the most sophisticated algorithm in world history for analyzing the market and predicting the price of securities. The fund more than tripled investments, outpacing all the major stock and bond indexes. Yes, the returns were genuine. However, it turned out that the secret fund was purely fictional. Reality is that it was, the "proverbial portfolio picked by a blindfolded monkey."
In 1999, a chimpanzee named Raven threw ten darts at a board with 133 internet-related companies. The portfolio out-performed more than 6000 money managers by earning a 213% return.
In 2013 a ginger tabby cat named Orlando, (who would toss his toy mouse on a grid of choices) showed a return of nearly 11%.
A good thing about having a monkey or a cat picking your investment is cheaper fees.
A few bananas and some catnip.

Watch Out
Did you get an email from Microsoft about updating their services agreement? Did you even know you have a services agreement? Well, chances are you do if you use any Microsoft product or service. This is how the email began:
"You’re receiving this email because we are updating the Microsoft Services Agreement, which applies to one or more Microsoft products or services you use. We’re making these updates to clarify our terms and ensure that they remain transparent for you, as well as to cover new Microsoft products, services and features. The Microsoft Services Agreement is an agreement between you and Microsoft (or one of its affiliates) that governs your use of Microsoft consumer online products and services."
Now, what you are expected to do is to just ignore the notice and go about your business, but you may want to take some time to look and see what it is all about. I will admit that you may need to go to law school first, but at least take a look at the conditions and changes.
Anytime, a large corporation, with all their legal beagles, sends you a notice, it is about them, not you. Somewhere in the fine print you may be agreeing to give them your first born and all your worldly goods. Well, maybe not that bad, but be assured that they do not have your best interest in mind.
I am so old that I remember when Microsoft proclaimed that when you bought a software, that you would never have to buy another one. Now, they lease you software, with lots of conditions.
And, don’t forget this is the company that gave you Windows Vista and Windows 8. I was happy with Windows 3.1.
Not to worry.
Especially if you are having concerns about your first born.

Youth Protest
America is the only country I know of that has protest to take away rights granted under the Constitution. For a long time there have been protest against the 1st and 2nd Amendments, but today it is obvious that social engineering and political correctness efforts are really starting to have effects.
While we still have some limited venues for freedom of speech, 1st Amendment, but colleges and universities have pretty well stopped any opposing views to liberalism. The media quit allowing opposition to their liberal and politically correct agenda years ago.
Now we have protest at all school levels to do away with the right to bear arms. I recently read a comment from a 16 year old that stated he wanted a country where there are no guns. The handlers of the youth protesters, are determined to abolish rights that have kept this country free for over 200 years.
It is often said, "Study history or you are doomed to repeat it."
Hitler used youths to get his power to abolish any rights he wanted to.

While we still have some limited venues for freedom of speech, 1st Amendment, but colleges and universities have pretty well stopped any opposing views to liberalism. The media quit allowing opposition to their liberal and politically correct agenda years ago.

Writers Blcok
All writers have writers block at one time or another. All though it seems simple to write what I write daily, it can be a challenge. And, today is one of those days. I can’t think of anything I want to write about, so I am going to write about nothing.
Nothing can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending upon your need or expectation. If you really need something and you get nothing, then that can be a problem. If you expect something bad to happen and nothing happens, then it is a good thing.
Remember, nothing is not worth nothing.
But it’s free.

Blarney
Saint Patrick’s Day is Saturday, March 17th. You are supposed to wear green and pinch anyone that does not. Pinching is to remind you that leprechauns can sneak upon you at anytime. But, be careful who you pinch and where you pinch them.
Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland because he was a Christian missionary given credit for converting Ireland to Christianity in the AD 400s. There are many legends tied to St. Patrick, but my favorite is that he drove all the snakes out of Ireland, after they attacked him during a 40 day fast he was taking on top of a hill, so he just banished all the snakes to the sea.
We need a Saint Patrick today. One that could banish all the snakes in Washington D.C. into the sea. That would be a cause for real celebration.
We could all set around eating corned beef and cabbage and watch them try to learn how to swim with their pockets full of our money.

Valley Of Hinnom
Do you believe in hell? You know, that terrible place of fire that burns for eternity. I would remind you that eternity is a really long time. The Christian faith believes that non-believers will be cast into the "lake of fire" which is not a lake but a pit.
In ancient times just outside the city of Jerusalem, was the Valley of Hinnon. It was a trash dump that burned continuously. Historically the Valley had been used to sacrifice children to ancient gods by burning them to death. This was not a nice place. While it did serve a place for trash to burn and be consumed by maggots, it was also used to burn the bodies of those that could not afford a funeral or those that committed certain crimes.
In the Bible the word Gehenna literally means, Valley of Hinnom. But, it is often used to refer to as hell, which is not correct. Gehenna is the symbol for hell’s eternal destruction, that was used to explain what hell would be like in terms that the people at the time would understand.
In the small town where I grew we had a trash dump just outside town. It was where all the trash was placed to decay and be covered up from time to time. But, it also was burned as a means to reduce the piles of trash and garbage. When the wind was out of that direction, everyone stayed inside during the burns because of the horrid stench, that could last for several days. I determined that I would never have a need to go out to the trash dump.
Hades from the Greek and the Hebrew word Sheol are often used to refer to hell or the eternal place for the dead. All three words have been translated in English to the word hell. But whatever you call it, it is not a place one would want to be.
Whether you believe in hell or not is up to you, just like believing in God. If there is no God, heaven or hell, then why would we not all just do what we want to?
Some people say, "there is no hell." Others say, "the hell there ain’t." What happens if what you believe is wrong? If there is not hell, then what have you got to lose by living a righteous life? But what if there is a hell?
When you're dead, it will be too late to say, "Oops."

Still In Denial
"Hilldawg" Clinton knows exactly why she did not get elected. It was everybody’s fault but hers. Speaking at a conference in Mumbai, India she spoke about her favorite subject - herself. Again she blames those dang "Deplorables." But this time she has implied that white women didn’t stand up for her, but bowed to their husbands wishes to vote for Trump. That should win her some support.
Can you imagine what would have happened had she won? That’s why she did not win. A lot of people did imagine. And, they didn’t want a "queen" to bow down to. As she continues her ‘pity party’ she has no idea that she is truly pitied. But it’s because of the way she thinks.
And, she did stumble down again in front of the cameras at the conference.

Flying Cars
Look up in the air. Is it a bird or a plane? No, it’s a passenger drone. Are you ready to take a flight in a passenger drone? China has developed such a machine and it is supposed to be on the market in a couple of years - give or take. It reportedly will have about 20 minutes run time, so if you hop on, make it a short trip.
And, the future also promises a four passenger mini “helicopter” to hop around in. Not exactly a flying car, but getting closer. It may take awhile to get like the “Jetsons” but it’s not long until 2062 - the year the cartoon world.
And, speaking of cartoons, if you think traffic is a nightmare now, just wait until there are flying cars. If you haven’t noticed, there ain’t no traffic signs in the sky. Not to worry, all you have to do is keep from crashing and running into other flying cars while you try to avoid them from running into you, while you look for a parking space.
And remember what a country music singer once said, “If God wanted us to have cars, we would have all been born with a parking space.
God has to think we are funny.

Class Of '57
Way back in 1972, the Statler Brothers, released a song entitled "The Class of ‘57." It explained life as it really is. The class of 57 had it dreams, but when young people step into the world to find their way, they discover that living really is not what they expected it to be.
Today we live in a world where young people are raised as delicate ‘snowflakes’ with no preparation for what happens when mommy no longer has a safe place for them to hide from the big bad wolves. We have at least two generations that are not prepared to handle the challenges of living day to day. Perhaps that is why we see on TV on an almost daily basis, the tragic consequences of no preparation for living.
Mental health ‘professionals’ would have us believe that children can’t deal with adversity and hardships. Mule muffins! Children are quick to learn, and are capable of living in a world that takes a lot of ‘grit’ to survive. The real tragedy is they are not being prepared. Parents are not doing their job.
It is a wonderful time to be young and full of hopes and dreams. I was young once. But, some dreams go by the wayside and we all must come to realize that the world is a cruel and dangerous place and we must find our place, because the world won’t adjust to fit us. Like the songs says:
"And the class of ‘57 had its dreams
But living life day to day
Is never like it seems.
Things get complicated when
You get past eighteen.
But the class of ‘57 had its dreams."

International Days
March 8th was International Womens Day. International Mens Day is set for November 19th. Today (Saturday) March 10 is International Bagpipes Day.
It has occurred to me that the reason for mens day to wait until November, is that it will take that long for men to start listening again after women and bagpipes in March.
I’m waiting for International Grumpy Old Mens Day to be established.

Ignorance Is Bliss
If you have never heard anyone speak as an expert about something they know nothing about, then you don’t watch or listen to the media news or read anything on the internet. Ignorance is bliss for some, but dangerous for the masses.
The main stream media loves to call an AR 15 rifle an "assault rifle." It is not. It does not fit the military definition of an assault weapon. The AR stands for ArmaLite rifle. ArmaLite is the company that originated the design in the 1950s. The number 15 is merely a model number. The number does not designate the capacity, barrel length or anything else. The first widely produced AR’s were .22 hornet survival rifles developed for the Air Force as the MA-1 rifle. The civilian version was an AR-5, chambered for .22 Long Rifle ammo. There are even AR shotguns. Well, you get the idea.
None the less, the media and anti-gun activists ignore the facts and rely upon scare tactics to deny 2nd Amendment rights to Americans.
And, while I am trying to educate some, I might mention that the moon really isn’t made of green cheese.
Don’t bother telling the media.
They’re the "experts."

Scientifically Speaking
Every now and then, I think about how much the average person does not know about science that affects them everyday.
For example, there is no such thing as cold. We have no measurement devices to register cold. Temperatures are measured in increments of heat. So in the winter, it doesn’t get cold, we just have an absence of heat.
There is no darkness, only the absence of light. Say, you order a box of dark from some online shopping site. And, you get the box which is taped shut. If you open the box, the darkness is gone. Unless, you take the box into a closet with the lights turned off to open it. But, be sure, as soon as that box gets light, bye bye dark.
Heat moves to cold, and moisture moves to dry and water won’t flow uphill unassisted.
Hanging you clothes in a closet will cause them to shrink. If you don’t think that is true, just get out a pair of pants you haven’t worn in a few years and see what happens.
Women seem to notice this one more than men.

Here It Come Again
Here it comes again - Daylight Saving Time begins March 11th. And, as usual, I still think this is not necessary. Yes, I know that this whole thing was to save energy, which it does not do in today’s world, so why can’t we just set the clocks one way or another and leave them alone?
Arizona is the only state that does not participate in DST. I’m guessing that’s because they have enough daylight in Arizona and don’t want anymore.
If I follow the mind set of the proponents of DST, then theoretically, my tomato plants will have more daylight and grow better.
I talk to my plants because I understand they have feelings. I tell them they now have more daylight and should produce more fruit.
Tomato plants don’t listen very well.

More Don't Talk
I was reminded today of the best reason for not trying to have an intelligent discussion with a radical liberal. It's quite simple. Doing so is like trying to have a discussion with a pig.
You both get muddy.
But, the pig enjoys it.

Don't Talk
Listening to a talk radio program, I heard the host trying to discuss guns with a man that used a typical wild liberal approach to the subject. Talk loud and continuously, ignoring facts and being oblivious that you are making a fool of yourself and doing nothing for whatever point you are trying to make.
The radio host tried numerous times to get a word in but was cut off until he asked if he could be allowed to finish a sentence. The man said, "sure, go ahead." As soon as the host began to speak, the man cut him off again.
The only way to deal with people like that is not to speak to them at all.
You can just laugh at them, but they still won't stop talking.

The Oscars
It’s that time again. Time to bow down to the little self declared gods of the entertainment industry. If that sounds harsh, it is. What other profession holds a big show to pat themselves on the back and espouse their wisdom on how the world should be. These people play in a make believe world and often have no idea what happens in the real world.
Actors fulfill a niche in society to entertain. They are the jesters of the court of long ago and the thespians that play a role that is truly judged by the audience.
What if other professions held a big show to pat themselves on the back? How many would watch? Think about it. Let’s say plumbers banned together and told themselves they are great and deserve adoration of the world. Wait! They may be deserving of such recognition.
Where would the world be without plumbers?
In deep...........well you know what.

The Way It Is
I read a lot of different news and opinion sources. The following came from The Patriot Post this week:
"If non-members of the NRA would stop shooting people, gun violence would drop 100%."
And, that's the name of that tune.

Texas Independence Day
March 2, 1836 in a little place called Washington on the Brazos, Texas declared independence from Mexico and established the Republic of Texas. Yep, Texas became a country and many of us think it still is.
The word Texas came from the Native American Caddo tribe and the word ‘teyshas’ which means friends or allies. And again, for many of us, it still means that.
Many people around the world know about the Alamo, which fell March 6, 1836, but it seems that’s about all they know. There is so much to know about Texas history. Like the first interim President was David G. Burnet with Sam Houston in charge of the military. Burnet was replaced by Sam Houston the same year.
Yep, pardners, Texas is truly a unique place, has been from the begining.
The most important thing to remember about Texas is you should not ask someone if they are from Texas. If they are, they will tell you.
If they are not, then don’t embarrass them.

Old Enough
One can buy cigarettes at 18 years of age in most states. You can buy beer in some at age 18. You can join the military at age 18 and with parental permission at age 17. You can vote at age 18. But, now the current liberal movement is to make one wait until 21 to buy a rifle. Explain to me how that is going to change anything.
It is so obvious that some people don’t have a clue about guns. Civilians have guns for protection, hunting and sport. It was the liberal media that dubbed AR15s as "assault rifles." They are not. The military has assault rifles, but now civilians. The AR is a sport rifle, and it is fun to shoot. They are used for hunting, but mostly they are used for shooting targets and bragging about how good you are. It’s kinda like a golf score.
I have owned my own guns since I was about 14 years old. No, I didn’t buy them, they were presents because I like to shoot. I gave up golf to take up shooting at the pistol range. It’s basically the same frustration, trying to be good and not being very good. But, at least it’s indoors out of the heat, cold or rain.
People, especially boys, start learning about guns at an early age. Safety and responsibility are the key to sport shooting and hunting. And, under normal conditions, when boys become 18, they want to pick out their own gun. If they have been properly coached and trained, there is no reason not to allow them, provided they can pass a background check.
The people that shoot up schools and churches and other places, shouldn’t be allowed to buy a gun at any age, and there are ways to determine if they should not. But that doesn’t fit radical politics.
Radical politics is when one person does something horrific, but millions of others are punished.
