Texas Independence Day

March 2, 1836 in a little place called Washington on the Brazos, Texas declared independence from Mexico and established the Republic of Texas. Yep, Texas became a country and many of us think it still is.

The word Texas came from the Native American Caddo tribe and the word ‘teyshas’ which means friends or allies. And again, for many of us, it still means that.

Many people around the world know about the Alamo, which fell March 6, 1836, but it seems that’s about all they know. There is so much to know about Texas history. Like the first interim President was David G. Burnet with Sam Houston in charge of the military. Burnet was replaced by Sam Houston the same year.

Yep, pardners, Texas is truly a unique place, has been from the begining.

The most important thing to remember about Texas is you should not ask someone if they are from Texas. If they are, they will tell you.

If they are not, then don’t embarrass them.
