Twenty One

Here’s another one of my solutions for the problems that plague our world. If one is going to have to be 21 to buy a rifle, why not take some further steps. There is no doubt that driving is dangerous to teens. Look at insurance rates for those under 21. So, let’s just make a law requires one to be 21 to drive.

Next, because there also is no doubt that violent games have an impact on behavior of yong people, we need to raise the age to 21 for playing those games. And, since the cesspool social media sites are equally damaging to young minds, visiting those sites should be dittoed.

There is evidence that smart phones and ipads are potential threats to young minds. Now may be the time to not allow anyone under 21 to have access to said devices. Well, you get the picture. It’s a dangerous world.

There absolutely must be something done to protect students in schools, but the solution does not lie with guns or the age to buy a rifle. The news around Texas today is bombings in Austin. Is this going to spark more bombings? Probably. We already have lots of laws against bombs. Obviously those don’t work.

Let me say again, the problem we have is a lack of a common culture - American - that focuses on morals, behaviors and punishment for breaking laws. Our society has lost its way. There is no higher authority governing. In fact, over the years there have been efforts to take the 10 Commandments down from pubic buildings and monuments, as well as no allowing prayer in schools. We have become a nation that does not enforce existing laws designed to protect us. What we have is a "if it feels good, do it" world.

Once more I assure you, the world is a dangerous place. There are evil people that do evil things. As Edmund Burke said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

"To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men." Abraham Lincoln.

Have we become a nation of cowards?
