Love

After reviewing several dictionaries the common for love is defined as, "a strong affection for another person." Yet, we constantly hear the word love misused in hundreds if not thousands of ways. I "love" this or that. The word love is used so loosely that one might question if it has any value at all.

I question if in today’s world if anyone truly has any understanding of what real love really means. In Hebrew the word Ahava is used as love meaning "I give." Agape from the Greek defines love as unconditional. Neither of these words has any meaning in saying, "I love this or that."

What would happen if we suddenly quit using "love" as a universal term to cover everything we like or enjoy? To truly understand the meaning of love, whether you are Christian or not, is to read John 3:16 in the Christian Bible. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Would you sacrifice your child to proclaim your love? Or, would you die for that which you "love?"

That’s what "love" means.
