"United we stand, divided we fall," goes the old adage. As evidenced by the last election, we are not a united country. If we were, everyone would accept the outcome and get on with business. Unfortunately, we’ve had eight years of division that is going to be difficult, if impossible, to get corrected. Before you think it was or was not Obama’s fault entirely, it was not. However, he was the driving force and still is today. Just look at his web site.
When the president speaks out and takes actions to turn race against race, thugs against police and religions against religions, the result can’t help but be divisive. But, there are support and driving forces that did as much as he did. Many of them are still in office and their support is growing in the private sector and on the state levels. When a city ignores laws on immigration, private business ignores laws on common decency and even the NFL threatens states that do not comply with their political views, we have resounding evidence that we are a nation divided. Just so you will know, Governor Abbott of Texas has basically told the NFL to do what they threaten to do about a "bathroom" bill in current legislation, but they will not control the State of Texas.
Over 100 years ago, there was a civil war fought over what should never have existed - slavery. Today, the division is just as real. Philosophical politics that seek to divide and destroy are simmering. Unless you are dead, you have to see what can happen.
I don’t know what Trump can or cannot do, but I do believe that he is trying to unite the nation. No, I don’t agree with everything he does, but am willing to give him the benefit of doubt and try.
It’s certain that what we’ve had has only been destructive.
