You may be aware of Alfie Evans, the 23 month old child in the UK that the government would not allow the parents to move to another hospital because they considered the child as terminal. Alfie has died.
The parents tried to get the child moved, even to another country, in desperation to save his life, but British officials made a decision to let him die.
I do not pretend to know if the decision to let the boy die was the right thing or not. I don’t have facts that would have contributed to such an action. Perhaps it was best for the child, perhaps it was not. But, the one fact I do have is simple, it is the parents decision to make, not government.
Reality is that if you give government officials control of your health care, you give them control of your life. You may want to remember Alfie the next time you are encouraged to vote for a ‘progressive liberal’ politician.
Be assured that Alfie is now where he will be treated as he deserves.
