I suppose that everyone has felt alone at one time or another, even when surrounded by others. During the Easter celebrations, there is a very important point that is often missed. You die all alone. It doesn’t matter how many people are around you.
We often hear about someone dying surrounded by family or friends. Truth is that the man Jesus died surround by his enemies who mocked him and a few family and friends. But he died alone as evidenced by the writing from the New Testament: Around the ninth hour, Jesus shouted in a loud voice, saying "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" which is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Mark 15:34.
If he was the Son he claimed to be, then why would he feel forsaken? The answer is simple, he died alone to face all the sins of the world for all time. It wasn’t him that was forsaken, but the sins. And, that’s the way you will die - alone with your sins.
Pretty deep stuff, talking about dying alone. People don’t like to talk about death. You never invite some friends over for chips and dips and talk about who’s going to die next. But, you are going to die.
And, you are going to die alone.
Nobody can walk that walk with you.
