HVAC

Most people in the world use HVAC everyday, but may not know it. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning. We all just say the air conditioner. There was a time in my life when I had no HVAC except to open a window on hot days and keep it closed on cold days. Neither seemed to help much.

Like everything else, including humans, HVAC systems get old and eventually die. Therefore, I decided to replace the unit in our house before it died on a Sunday when the temperature was about 110 degrees in the shade. That’s when you will never get anyone to come out and work on the unit. A friend that owns a HVAC business came over with a crew and took out the old and put in the new. As expected, we had the unexpected problems.

Technology is in constant change. The equipment is about twice the size it used to be because of government regulations that prohibit using some refrigerants and the new stuff just ain’t as efficient as the old. This is not usually a problem on the outdoor unit, but when your indoor unit is in a closet in a house that was built 30 years ago, it is a problem. The closet was designed for much smaller equipment. The workers had to make some ‘adjustments’ to get the dang thing inside that little closet. But, it is now in there.

Then came the next step, getting the wiring done between the outdoor and indoor units and the thermostat. After much investigation they discovered they had wired some wires in the wrong order, which caused the unit not to work with the thermostat. I think it took all four of them to come up the solution.  The new system now works.

But, when the thing comes on, it sets off the sprinkler system on the lawn and tunes the TV to the home improvement channel.

They told me that my lawn will look nice and that’s their favorite show.
