Father's Job

I found out when my daughter was born that a father has some serious responsibilities. At least the ones that take the job seriously. Over the years I have condensed it down to just three things that really matter. And, getting a new dress for every occasion in high school is not on the top of the list.

A father’s job is really pretty simple. All one has to do is pray, protect and provide, with lots of emphasis on praying.

There hasn’t been a day since daughter was born that I haven’t prayed for her. Without divine intervention, girls can get into and cause a lot of problems. Boys are worse. It’s kinda like calling for backup when things happen. And, they happen a lot.

Father’s must protect. That’s why you spend so much time praying. When you think of protect, think of things like keeping a child warm, happy and dry. The hardest protection job is to protect them from themselves. That’s all but impossible.

Provide simply means to give them what they need. Food, clothing, shelter (a place to call home), and medical and dental care are essential. Their wants grow with them and that’s another subject.

I wonder how God handles it. Being a Father of all the kids He has.

Remember to pray - continuously. If not for them, for yourself.
