It has been said about journalist, "Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story." As you may already know, this applies to politicians too. Such is the case of the Democratic candidate for Governor of the GREAT State of Texas. It is reported that Wendy Davis tells such a heart tugging story about how she got pregnant, got married, got divorced, lived in a mobile home, worked and went to school and remarried again, then got a law degree from Harvard. Then, she got divorced again and this ex got custody of the child they had together.
In a story in the Dallas Morning News this past weekend, the ex-husband told his side of he story. It doesn’t exactly line up with hers. You can expect that. But, she did admit that he was a much older man and when he paid off the loan at Harvard, she filed for divorce the next day. Whatever the truth is, she did get to be a lawyer, without any children to care for, and became a politician.
Now, she is faced with answering questions about her embellished story of her "struggle" to get where she is today. This is the same Ms. Davis that filibustered Texas legislators on abortion rights, and says that she wants to help women not to have to "suffer as she did."
She says of her opponent, Gregg Abbott - who has been in a wheelchair since his back was broken as a young man, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down - that he doesn’t understand people who struggle.
It has been many years since Texas has had a Democrat as governor. With the story she tells, Ms. Davis just might be.
All she has to do is tell the truth, the whole truth and everything but the truth.
