If you have never heard of thieves oil, four thieves oil, or thieves vinegar, then you would be like me, until recently. While there are variations of the story, it seems that four thieves were stealing from folks that were dying of the Bubonic Plague, in Medieval times. The thieves were caught and tried, but he judge offered leniency if they would share how they avoided contracting the disease.
It is also reported that during this time period that physicians were seen wearing long black robes, wide brimmed hats, and masks that appeared to have a beak. The masks were said to contain a combination of herbs, spices and essential oils that the doctors would breathe to keep themselves safe from those afflicted with the illness. Their long robes were also said to be doused in a similar fragrant concoction.
Strange as it may sound, in the land of those that use herbs and spices to ward off disease, thieves oil is used today to prevent bacterial and virus infections.
Because my financial controller has recently become ill, it was suggested that I need to use thieves oil to protect myself from catching her malady.
I didn’t realize how hard it would be to find one of those mask and a long black robe.
Amazon.com doesn’t have them.
