Best Advice

In this crazy world, it can be difficult to deal with all the insanity.  Some people may have to seek professional help, while others just stew in their own juices and snap at people, not really intending to be mean or uncaring.

How to deal with a constant barrage by the media can be overwhelming.  But, do not despair.  I have discovered the best approach to any and all MSM reports.  Just follow the example in the following video and you will feel much better.

Now, don't you feel better.
I do.

Wizard Behind The Curtain

In the movie, The Wizard of Oz" the real wizard was behind the curtain. Truth is that there is still a wizard behind the curtain.

Amendment XV to the U.S. Constitution as passed by Congress February 26, 1869, and ratified February 3, 1870, gave "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." The Republican gave but the Democrats took away. Jim Crow quickly snatched away that right for all practical purposes, however, as poll taxes and literacy tests--and Klansmen--denied blacks that fundamental right. Such was the case with gun control, the Democrats denied any rights for blacks and some immigrants to possess a gun. Guess what, they now want to deny anyone the right to possess guns.

Well, maybe they will allow the body guards for the elites behind the curtain to have guns.

How many times must it be said, "Guns are not the problem, people are the problem."

A Challenge

Here’s the challenge of the day - find evidence that the NRA has any responsibility in any of the school shootings or other mass murder events. Do some research and here are some of the things you’ll find.

Go all the way back to 1871 when Union veterans Col. William Church and Gen. George Wingate formed the National Rifle Association. They were dismayed by the lack of marksmanship by their troops in the Civil War and wanted to promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis.

The organization was pushed out of New York for political reasons but found a home in New Jersey. The NRA continued to grow because of people that loved the sport of shooting - just like golf, tennis, fishing, etc. Today they are the recourse for gun safety and responsibility. This is especially true in hunter training programs required by states before one can obtain a hunting license. With gun safety and scientific shooting at the forefront, the safe use of all firearms has improved tremendously.

The NRA has stood up for the 2nd Amendment rights of all Americans, meeting head on those that would take this right away. Today, there is an estimated 300 million guns in the United States with trillions of rounds of ammunition. Yet, there is no one that can honestly say that the NRA has ever encouraged any violence. Unlike other "rights" organizations that do promote violence to get what they perceive to be their rights.

The NRA is the only national trainer of law enforcement officers with the NRA Police Firearms Instructor program. And, they teach civilians too. Over 125,000 certified instructors educate about one million gun owners every year. They have educated more than 28 million pre-k to fourth grade children on what to do if they see a firearm in an unsupervised situation - Stop-Don’t Touch- Run Away-Tell a grownup. And, they teach "Refuse To Be A Victim" seminars to help men and women to develop their own personal safety plan using common sense strategies.

These comments are but a few things the NRA does for America.

Incidentally, they collected and sent more than 7,000 firearms to Britain’s defense against Germany in WWII. Britain had virtually disarmed itself with gun control laws between WWI and WWII.

Maybe that’s why the NRA exists today.

Time To Change

We are told that we are to accept the things that we cannot change. Why? Is it because there are so many things that we as individuals cannot change? Or is it because there are so many things that are just not important enough to us to make any effort to change?

Yes, there are things that annoy us that we cannot change, like the weather and diseases. But, everyday we inundated with changes that contradict something that yesterday was an annoyance, and now it is not. Just for the record, I really don’t care if bacon is good or bad for you. I’m going to eat it anyway.

The biggest change needed in this country today is a renewing of American unity. But, how often do you hear, "Well, I can’t change it?" Why not? Those that would divide and destroy us all in their quest to gain power have in fact made changes that annoyed them. Changes like a hatred for the Judeo-Christian principles that this country was founded upon; hatred for the value of human life; escape from personal responsibility; and the damaging idea that anything that does not agree with a liberal philosophy is wrong and must be suppressed. The amazing thing is that these that make the changes represent less than one percent of the population, and in some cases, less than 1/10 of one percent.

The late Dr. Billy Graham said that America is on the brink of destruction. But he also said that it can be changed.

We as individuals may not be able to change things.

But, united, we can.

Sounds Right To Me

If you’ve never read 'theonion.com', you may want to read it sometime. It’s satirical writing about real and fictional news is often quite entertaining. Like the following article that came out this week.

WASHINGTON—In a new study published Tuesday that surveyed U.S. residents about their attitudes toward current events, the Pew Research Center found that approximately 90 percent of Americans described themselves as strongly opposed to each other. "In the questionnaire we administered, nine out of 10 participants indicated they fundamentally disapproved of the actions currently being taken by their fellow citizens," said polling analyst Babette Randolph, noting that the rate of opposition remained consistent across all 50 states and virtually every demographic regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or political identification. "The vast majority of poll respondents signaled they were dead set against the U.S. populace, condemning in forceful terms the way others have handled things over the past year and giving the people of their nation historically low ratings." Randolph went on to note that the 10 percent of survey participants who indicated otherwise did so because they didn’t consider those they disagreed with to actually be Americans.

Now, I ask you, "How can you argue with that?"

Cover Fire

Several years ago I saw a cartoon, that may have been a prophesy of things to come. A man hands a rifle to his wife and says, "You cover me while I will go out and get the mail." And, then there is the old Ziggy cartoon strip where Ziggy is standing under a court house clock that displays, "It’s 11 o’clock and you’re in deep do-do."

The world is a dangerous place but is has always been. The only time there is any improvement is when the people change to a government that bases morals on the Bible, and understands there is a punishment for committing crimes against one another.

"Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." —John Adams (1798)

It is that simple.

How To Boil A Frog

Should you ever find yourself in need of knowing how to boil a frog, here’s how. First you fill a large, deep, pot with cold water and place in on a stove burner, but don’t turn on the burner yet. Next you catch a frog. Put the frog into the water. Frogs are happy in water. Then turn on the burner to high and wait for it to boil.

If you put the frog into boiling water it will jump out, but if you let the water get hotter and hotter, the frog will just sit there and get boiled. Season to your taste, if you want to eat a boiled frog.

The moral of the story is the way to destroy a republic is to destroy the foundation a little at a time until the whole thing collapses.

Then it is too late to save.

R.I.P.

This the day that Billy Graham has waited for since he was 16 years old.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 King James Version
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

Rest in peace Billy Graham.

Follow The Money

Have you ever asked why we have Presidents Day instead of celebrating George Washington’s birthday?  The answer is money.  Washington’s birthday became a day of remembrance in 1800, following his death in 1799.  Then the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed in 1968 and went into effect in 1971.  Interestingly, it was Richard Nixon that issued the executive order.

The plan was to have holidays on the third Monday of  the month so people would have a three day weekend.  Unions and merchants loved the idea, but there was push back because to celebrate all presidents diminished the significance of recognizing George Washington.  Trust me, there have been a bunch of presidents that do not deserve being honored.  Washington help found the country and some of the others make me wonder how the country survived.

But, American tradition was replaced with chasing the almighty dollar.

I do hope that you went to a mattress sale on Presidents Day.

It’s the approved way to celebrate.

Do Something

If you’ve watched the talking heads talking about the latest school shooting, they are promoting the ‘do something,’ movement. Well, what is something? Obviously, they don’t know. The fact is that to do something for the sake of doing something may be the worst thing that can be done. Reacting in an emotional state is rarely (never) the time to do anything, but regroup and grieve.

The first ‘something’ is to identify the root problem, which is not guns. They are only a tool used to carry out a plan. There are many other weapons that can be used and more effective.

The effective ‘do something’ should be to gather a team of tried and proven experts in defense and prevention and give them ample time to develop a plan.

There are no experts in either field in D.C.

Blame Game

I used to be amazed by how stupid some people can be. Now, it just irritates me. Now we have people blaming the NRA for school shootings. That is like blaming the National Automobile Dealers Association for drunken drivers.

Once again, you can’t fix stupid.

Food Stamps

Perhaps you have stood in line at a store that sells food and have seen people with baskets full, talking on their free cell phones, dressed nicely and then presenting their food stamp card to pay for the groceries. Should an item not be approved for the card, they reach into their wallets and present a $100 bill to pay for it. Yes, I have seen this many times. Perhaps, this doesn’t upset you, but I know I can’t get free groceries, a free cell phone and $100 bills are very rare in my wallet.

The Trump administration is calling for a new plan for food stamps. People would receive boxes of nonperishable food instead. Actually, the recipients would get half the money they had received, but the projected savings amounts to roughly $129 billion over 10 years. Can you hear the screams about this plan? Why, some people might not know how to prepare the food they get. And, even worse, the plan could stigmatize those on welfare.

This plan is nothing new. Back in the 50s when I grew up, there was a government "commodities" program that issued food to those in need. I know, because I was one of those that received it. And, for shame, my parents had to drive to a distribution center to get them. The food wasn’t great, but when you are truly hungry and don’t have any money in your pocket, it didn’t taste bad. Well, actually it did taste bad, but talk about motivation to find some kind of a job, any kind of a job.

I spent several years coordinating low-income programs with the State. I’ve been inside a lot of "poverty" homes. I never saw one that was as poor as I was. And, 90% of the apartments and houses I visited had nicer furniture and better meat in the freezer than I had.

I whole heartily support programs to help those that can’t help themselves, but when I hear the howls about how cruel it would be to make people take food and potentially identify them as being poor, I don’t have any sympathy.

Who would not want nutritious food homegrown by American farmers?

Those that don’t really need it.

Important People

VIP is an acronym for very important person. Have you ever heard of these very important people: George "Buddy" Fitts, James Biddle, Valene Davenport, Frances "Fran" Chamblee, Neil Bates, Randall Alford or James Biddle? Neither have I. They are names selected from obituaries in a newspaper.

What makes them important is that they lived and contributed daily to making this country what it is. Under all the conditions of life, they did the best they could "in the trenches" of daily living. They were not celebrities or politicians. They were common people.

The only hope the country has lies in the hands of the common people.

It is the common people that can determine destiny.

Good And Evil

Another school shooting. This time in Florida. At last report 17 lives lost with others wounded. And, the cry will go out against guns. But, the young shooter wasn’t possessed by guns.

I don’t care what your religious beliefs are, or if you don’t have any, if you are smart enough to get in out of the rain, you will agree that there is good and evil in the world. Everyday we hear about or perhaps experience first hand, the evil things that people do. And, we hear about or experience the good, sometimes. Before you say, "That’s life," let me ask you to stop and think about why the two exist at all.

Are people good or evil because of what they eat or where they live? Does education have any effect on being good or evil? Is it because they are short or tall, skinny or fat, blonde, brunette or bald? Here’s a tough one, is it because they are treated well or treated badly? The reality is that the answer to all the questions is no, so there must be another reason.

This may come as a surprise to some, but we are not just physical and mental beings. There is a third dimension to all of us. Remember I said that I do not care what your religious beliefs are. It is indisputable that we all are driven by something that none understand, but if honest, we cannot deny. Humans are influenced daily by two "spirits." One is good and one is evil. And, the evil one is much more aggressive, even to the point of making us deny that such spirits exist at all.

If you view, objectively, the two spirits, you will notice that doing good is beneficial not only to you, but everyone else. Following the evil always results in destruction. And, in case you don’t know, the evil one is so evil that it mocks you and laughs at how easy it is to make you do what you know is wrong.

The battle rages between good and evil and we are but pawns. But, we are not slaves until we give in to one side or the other. The choice is to be a slave to good or to evil. You will become one or the other, even if you think that you don’t have to choose.

Just bear in mind, it is our choice.

Choose carefully.

Valentines

Every year on February 14, millions of people exchange cards, candy or flowers with their special valentine. It isn’t exactly clear why, but I think you can blame the poet Chaucer, because he was the one that tied the day to romance.

As nearly as I can tell, Roman Emperor Claudius II, executed two men with the name Valentine on February 14th in two consecutive years, in the 3rd century A.D. Their martyrdom was recognized by the Catholic Church. Hence the celebration.

Fast forward to today and you will find that this is the second most popular day for giving cards, after Christmas. There are approximately one billion Valentine’s Day cards exchanged in the U.S. alone. The plot thickens. Florist wanted in on the business too, and it is the day to send flowers to you sweetie.

With my suspicious nature, I wonder if old Claudius wasn’t an entrepreneur. Perhaps he just wanted to make a few bucks with flowers and cards.

A man ahead of his time, but just a little bit late.

Presidents' Day

There was a time when the country celebrated George Washington’s birthday, then Abe Lincoln.  Next Monday, it’s Presidents’ Day - February 19. Trust me, there are some presidents that are not worthy of celebrating. But alas, times change and celebrations change. We have gone from respect for our founders to nation wide mattress sales.

My mail box is inundated with ads proclaiming great sale prices for Presidents’ Day. You can get a king for the price of a queen, with a free adjustable frame. There are stores that have never sold mattresses before having sales.

Kind of puts a whole new twist to Washington slept here.

Being a skeptic, I really don’t believe he slept on memory foam in East Texas.

Offense Is Defense

Someone said that the best defense is a good offense. As a student of human behavior, I notice that when someone does something and you ask why, you often get a reply like, "Well, you did something too." They don’t offer any defense such as, "It just happened or I’m sorry, I made a mistake." They take the offensive and attack you for whatever it was they did.

In other words, if you don’t have an answer, start a fight.

What To Call It

There is a distinctive difference between a democracy and a republic. In a democracy, if you get a new car and a majority decides that you don’t need a new car, then they can take it away. In a republic, the majority cannot take it away.

What I want to know is what do you call a place where if you buy a new car and only a few others have one, you get to tell the majority to get off the roads.

That’s where we live.

Who Wins?

It has been said that there is a little bit of good in the worse of us and a little bit of bad in the best of us. Never has there been a truer statement.

A wise Native American father took his son and sat him down to explain some of the things he would face in life. "Son," he said. "There are two wolves that live inside each of us. One is good and the other is evil. Everyday of your life, the wolves will fight to see which one takes control of your life."

The young boy thought about that for a moment and then said, "Father, which one of the wolves will win in my life?"

The wise father replied, "The one you feed."

Immigration

Exactly what are the laws governing immigration in this country? That seems to be a question that no one can easily answer. My short research reveals that no one can easily answer the question. Therefore, it appears that no one really knows. Yet, everyday we hear about immigration laws.

The founding fathers set limits on immigration in 1790, but changes have occurred multiple times since then. It seems to me that the solution is to simply pass a law that replaces all the other laws. I’m guessing that will never happen because the liberals want to let everybody in and the conservatives want more control than that.

Which ever position you may take on illegal immigration, the reality is that to preserve a nation, it is necessary to control those entering with limits and qualifications. Just look at Mexico’s immigration laws. If you enter illegally, they arrest you and put you in jail. Then they send you home.

There is no other country in the world with immigration laws like the United States.

Maybe there is a reason for that.

No Ladies

You may have heard the story about how PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi comments about a ‘ladies’ Doritos brought the wrath of the internet down upon her. She had said the company was developing a chip that didn’t leave stains on your fingers, wasn’t a crunch noise maker when you eat it and would be packaged to carry in a woman’s purse. A statement was issued later that the company already has a product for women - regular Doritos.

Ms. Nooyi was obviously trying to do something nice for ladies that do not like being unladylike. What she failed to understand is that liberal females are not ladies and don’t want to be. They want all women to be like them, crude and vulgar with their pink p_ _ _ y hats and dressed up like a vagina. Is this really what the women in this country want?

There was a time when women were treated respectfully. Men opened doors for them, and spoke to them like a gentleman. You didn’t curse around women and you certainly treated them with dignity and respect. Apparently that was terrible. At least that’s the point of view today.

It is obvious that there is a subculture of women that crave to be treated badly. They call it ‘equality.’ What’s equal about being seen as something offensive to men, and hopefully other women. What’s equal about not accepting and appreciating something nice being done for them? I do hope that these people don’t represent all women.

If they do, please let me know.

I’ll try to quit being polite, courteous and respectful.

Kids

Have you ever wondered why children are called "kids?" Unless you are weird like me, probably not. Well, the bottom line is that nobody really knows, except circa 1200 young goats were called kids. And, in the 1590s, calling children kids surfaced as slang. By 1812, the extended meaning was applied to young thieves and thugs.

A quick look at the similarities between baby goats and humans reveal that they are both cute. They both can be a real pain at times, and yes, they both even smell bad under certain conditions. Both are curious and get into everything they are not supposed to, and make loud crying noises if they don’t get their way.

The difference is that goat kids grow up and become goats and children remain children - at least in the eyes of their parents, grandparents and some uncles and aunts.

I don’t know if it’s derogatory to call children kids, but I suspect that it is politically incorrect. Looks like we need a "kids" march and some name changes.

Government Shutdown

In the next few days the media will again become obsessed with another possible government shutdown. It will keep them entertained for awhile and get their minds off the stock market adjustment. Truth is that there is no such thing as a real government shutdown. If there was, people would be dancing in the streets.

The surefire way to know there is no government shutdown is to look at your paycheck. Did they still withhold income taxes and social security? You better believe they did, as they do every time.

We all should be looking forward to a government shut down to get to watch the media frenzy. Here’s an inside tip. Trump was the cause. Just like he is the cause for the market correction, and everything else from the flu to no toilet paper in the restrooms.

Wake up America. Vote them all out.

I Know What You're Thinking

Have you heard someone say, "I know what you’re thinking?" Perhaps someone has told you that. Have you ever wondered, "How do you do that?" Think about it. It would be absolutely amazing to know what someone else is thinking. To be able to know what someone else is thinking is a skill I would like to have.

But, it isn’t possible. The problem is that people think differently and some don’t think at all. So, when someone says they know what you are thinking, they are only transferring their thoughts to the person they are speaking to or about. Politicians love to do this against opponents. And, is standard behavior for anyone that perceives they can gain power over you or if they feel threatened and about to lose an argument.

The next time someone says, "I know what you’re thinking," just respond with, "That’s amazing. Please teach me how to do that." And, be sure to ask if they can read the minds of people of different nationalities, languages and cultures.

Or, you can just do what a grumpy old man does. Sometimes I just don’t think.

That really throws them off.

Many years ago in a land far away there lived a benevolent king that spent his time trying to protect his subjects. Most of his days were spent slaying dragons and saving damsels in distress. He really didn’t have time to manage the business of running the kingdom, so he sent for his wise men. He told them that he wanted them to go forth and gather all the knowledge in the world about business.

The wise guys sent out on a journey to gather the information and after a few years they returned with volumes of books on the subject. However, when they presented them to the king, he explained that he did not have time to read all those books and they would have to condense the information. Again, they left and set about the job of condensing the information.

After a couple of years, they returned with three large volumes of information. And, again, the king explained that he did not have time to read such a volume of information. Hey, he was tied up slaying dragons and saving damsels in distress. So, he gave them more specific instructions, "I want to know the single most critical thing to know about managing a kingdom."

For the third time, they left, but returned in just a few minutes with a single sheet of paper, which they presented to the king. "Is this all I need to know?," he asked. The answer was obviously yes. So, the king slowly unfolded the paper and read: "There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch."

Remember that the next time you hear a politician speak.

System Updates And Upgrades

Smart phones and, all the apps, must system updates and upgrades from time to time. iPads and notebooks do too. Then, there’s your wi-fi and router updates, not to mention whatever "box" you have on your TV. If you have a blue ray player, don’t forget to update the firmware there. The computer in your car must make software changes from time to time. Even the web browser(s) you use must be updated and upgraded. Don’t forget to update/upgrade your computer operating system - PC and Mac.

Take extra care to keep the anti-virus and malware software up to date, not to mention any software you have on your phone or computer. And, be sure to upgrade your printers, lest they won’t print when you want them to. The list goes on and on and on.

I’ve said all that to say this, "When does one have the time to use all these devices, or is the intent to just do the updates and upgrades?" Yes, you can set updates/upgrades to be installed automatically, but what happens if you don’t notice that your phone is updating and you move outside of a wi-fi area. Trust me you don’t want to do that.

In a world of technology that is constantly updating and upgrading, why hasn’t someone come up with a system upgrade for humans. Just install some kind of a device that automatically monitors and restores you physically to where you were years ago. It would be especially helpful with the brain, so you can keep up with all the other updates/upgrades on all the other stuff.

When they finally get around to inventing such a device, a word of caution: Don’t move outside of a wi-fi area while you are upgrading.

It won’t be a good thing.
