A Challenge

Here’s the challenge of the day - find evidence that the NRA has any responsibility in any of the school shootings or other mass murder events. Do some research and here are some of the things you’ll find.

Go all the way back to 1871 when Union veterans Col. William Church and Gen. George Wingate formed the National Rifle Association. They were dismayed by the lack of marksmanship by their troops in the Civil War and wanted to promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis.

The organization was pushed out of New York for political reasons but found a home in New Jersey. The NRA continued to grow because of people that loved the sport of shooting - just like golf, tennis, fishing, etc. Today they are the recourse for gun safety and responsibility. This is especially true in hunter training programs required by states before one can obtain a hunting license. With gun safety and scientific shooting at the forefront, the safe use of all firearms has improved tremendously.

The NRA has stood up for the 2nd Amendment rights of all Americans, meeting head on those that would take this right away. Today, there is an estimated 300 million guns in the United States with trillions of rounds of ammunition. Yet, there is no one that can honestly say that the NRA has ever encouraged any violence. Unlike other "rights" organizations that do promote violence to get what they perceive to be their rights.

The NRA is the only national trainer of law enforcement officers with the NRA Police Firearms Instructor program. And, they teach civilians too. Over 125,000 certified instructors educate about one million gun owners every year. They have educated more than 28 million pre-k to fourth grade children on what to do if they see a firearm in an unsupervised situation - Stop-Don’t Touch- Run Away-Tell a grownup. And, they teach "Refuse To Be A Victim" seminars to help men and women to develop their own personal safety plan using common sense strategies.

These comments are but a few things the NRA does for America.

Incidentally, they collected and sent more than 7,000 firearms to Britain’s defense against Germany in WWII. Britain had virtually disarmed itself with gun control laws between WWI and WWII.

Maybe that’s why the NRA exists today.
