You may have noticed there are a lot of people complaining about government. If you haven’t, then you aren’t talking to anyone for very long. One of my pet peeves is the comment, "what can you do about it?"
Anyone that mutters that statement probably can’t or won’t do anything about it. Far too often I hear, "I vote and that’s all I can do." WRONG!
Let me give you a quick lesson in human nature. Believe it or not, politicians are human - at least they fit the biological requirements. Humans are driven by what they want and how much pressure is applied from others to get them to do something. Politicians are just like me and you. They flock to those with similar beliefs and opinions. The key difference in politicians is they want to be re-elected.
When pressured by others and tempted by campaign contributions, they will and do bend to some insane ideas. So what is the obvious action ‘you’ can do about government?
First and foremost, tell them what you think. Next, use your circle of associates to tell them what they think. Have them tell their associates to tell them what they think. See how simple this works.
Most people I know are not wealthy - especially me - so how can they be heard? Just sit down and write a letter - a real letter with paper and pen and envelope and stamp. This gets attention! Be precise and concise on what you want to say.
It cost little to launch a national movement if you get a friend and they get a friend and so on. Just think what would happen if everyone on your block wrote a letter - then the neighborhood, then the town, then the State.
Far too many people don’t even know who their representatives are. Look it up for them or show them where they can find out. When they say, "what can you do about it?", then look them in the eye and say, "if I tell you what you can do, will you agree to do it?"
My dream is to get the people in my burg to write our congressman and senators. That way, when more letters pile into their offices, the aide or whomever reads the mail will say, "that idiot in Texas has recruited some more idiots and now he’s got the whole town writing."
It’s also good for the economy. All those stamps will help the postal service with their budget deficit.
