On The Border

I meet some interesting people. For example, we have a problem with the oven as mentioned in the last post. When the technician came to make the repair, I expected him to change out the lower heating element and be gone in a few minutes. It didn’t work out like that. Turns out that the fuse in the oven was blown and it will take 3 to 5 days to get the part. But, that’s not the story.

As I ran back and forth to turn the breaker off and on so the tech could work without getting electrocuted, we talked. This young man, an appliance repairman, used to be a member of the Border Patrol in Laredo. He shared that on his second day of training, he and a group of other cadets came under fire from across the Mexican border. Being raw recruits, the training officers asked if anyone knew how to shoot and he was the only one. He and the trainer returned fire. He said it turned out that such action is common along the border. And, that was about four years ago. They don’t report this on CNN or any of the major networks.

His wife told him she was moving back to East Texas and he could come along if he wanted to.

Obviously he did.
