The changes in medicine in my lifetime have been phenomenal, especially in surgery. When I was a boy, cataract surgery required one to lie in bed for seven days and not move your head. Today, it takes less than a half hour and you go home. Heart procedures that were considered ‘miracles’ in the past are common place today.
My youngest granddaughter had to undergo surgery this week. She went to the hospital about 7:00 a.m. and was on her way back home shortly after noon. And, they took out her gallbladder and appendix. She was given instructions on what to do, what to eat and even how to shower. Old dumb me asked if she had a way to prevent getting bandages wet. I was told there are no bandages, no stitches or staples. The doctor used some kind of super glue to close the incision. I asked if they used Gorilla super glue. It’s supposed to be the best kind.
Maybe that’s why they never tell me anything.
