The "Greatest Show on Earth" will end in May, after a 146 year run. Ringling Bros. And Barnum & Bailey Circus has announced that the show will end amid growing cost and decreasing revenues. Last year they quit using the elephants in the show because of animal rights protest and lawsuits. The Circus did win the lawsuits, but chose to move the huge beasts to a sanctuary in Florida.
And so ends the dreams of Phineas Barnum and James Bailey. When the elephants went, so did the dreams. Hey, you can’t have a circus without elephants and clowns.
I must admit that I’ve attended a circus or two, but honestly don’t remember why. Maybe it was for the cotton candy or to be able to see animals that I would not see otherwise. But, I do remember the elephants. They are beautiful and majestic. Let’s hope the ones from the show get to adjust to their new life before animal rights hypocrites attack full force again.
If you have a dog that you keep inside your house, isn’t that animal abuse? Of course it is. Dogs were intended to roam free. Teaching them tricks is more abuse. How about dogs used for police and drug enforcement work? It’s a matter of perception on the part of the chronic complainers that want to be on the evening news.
Do we not see ads on TV about how animals are abused everyday? There is no one more protective of animals, and I am allergic to all of them. And, I can’t stand to see dogs locked up all day waiting for someone to come and let them free. But, this doesn’t seem to bother the do-gooders.
Another part of America’s heritage dies in May.
Don’t bother sending in the clowns.
