Really Remember?

Do you remember Tiananmen Square? On June 5, 1989, a lone student stood up to a column of communist tanks in China and stopped them cold. Do you remember the crowds gathered along the street, watching to see what would happen? Thousands waited to see if the man would be overrun.

If you remember the crowds, you remember wrong. The street had been cleared. It was just the lone man and the tanks. Do you remember what happened to the man? To this day, no one really knows what happened to him.

The point is that the old adage is right. "Never believe what you hear and only half of what you see." The brain not only forgets details, but it implants details. That’s why eye witnesses are often wrong, or are only partially right.

Grumpy old men can’t remember anything, so we are okay.
