Will Shortz is an enigma. In fact, he is the only know person with a college degree in enigmatology, which he received from Indiana University in 1974. He also has law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. I might add that he never took the bar exam.
From an early age, Will fell in love with puzzles. He has been the crossword puzzle editor of the New York Times since 1993.
He says that his favorite puzzle clue is, “It might turn into a different story,” whose solution is, SPIRAL STAIRCASE.
So, there you have it. If you’re looking for an unusual career, you might start training now. I suspect having a last name like Shortz might help. You would cherish all the alone time you could get.
Imagine his life in grade school.
