Terms For Winter Temperatures In Texas

We’ve recently experienced weather in Texas that the rest of the world thinks is unusual.  When the temperature goes from the upper 70s to the mid 30's in about two minutes, it can make foreigners (anybody not from Texas) wonder a bit.  As a community service, let me explain the terms for temperatures in Texas.

First is “air’ish” or “a might air’ish.”  That means the temperature has just dropped to the low 40s or upper 30s.

“Nippy” or “a bit nippy” simply means the temperature is somewhere around 35 degrees, maybe even 32.

Then, there’s “chilly.”  Chilly translates to the anywhere in the 20s to below 32 degrees.

Cold is the last term of measurement of temperature.

It means, don’t worry about the cow, she’s frozen solid.
