Most of us who stayed awake during history classes know that Benjamin Franklin was instrumental in forming our nation. At the close of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, as Ben was leaving, a bystander asked, "Well, Doctor, what have we got -a republic or a monarchy?"
"A republic," Franklin replied, "if you can keep it."
I wonder what Doctor Franklin would think about the way it is today.
