The latest in a series of just plain stupid ideas from the Resident, is wether or not to have a question on a job application about “have you ever been convicted of a felony?” I haven’t given a lot of thought to this question for two reason. First, I’m still trying to determine which restroom to use. And, next this question is a no brainer. If for no other reason, an employer needs to get the issue on the table for discussion.
About a million years ago, I had to hire an accountant. As I interview candidates, I paid close attention to lapses in employment. One nice man with a lot of experience had a space of about 8 years that he did not have a job. When I inquired about this, he informed me that he had been in prison for embezzlement. He was a very polite and knowledgeable man. He did not get the job.
Had he been an engineer, I might have considered him.
But, I wouldn’t have let him count the money.
