Old Friends Die

When you get older, you lose old friends. Hansen and I were friends for over 30 years. He died yesterday, after suffering with multiple health issues for a lot of years.

Hansen was one of those intellectual types and I always enjoyed talking with him. Even after he moved to Colorado, we stayed in touch.

When his wife called today to tell me the bad news, I got to thinking. Being alive and living are two entirely different things. For the past several months, he was just alive.

And, I thought about how someone will say, "He died surrounded by family." Truth is, no matter who you are, or how many people are with you at the time, you die alone. He understood that.

I’m going to miss Hansen.

RIP, my friend.
