A long, long time ago in a land, there were tent revivals. Chances are that if you are under the age of 50, you never attended one. These were traveling evangelists that crossed the land, spreading the gospel of Christianity.
Singer Neil Diamond described them as traveling salvation shows, where everybody goes. It was time of joy and happiness and as Mr. Diamond sings, "Just when you could bet that you could hear yourself sweat, he walks in."
Oh, there were some that were charlatans, but most were following a calling to call America back to God. It was a back to basics church to fit all denominations and cultures.
Can you imagine sitting in metal chairs under a tent on a hot steamy summer night to hear upbeat gospel music and preaching? Not today you say. You are right.
Americans would only bear the heat and crowds for a sporting event.
Still I wonder what would happen if tent revivals came back.
