Don't Go Into The Water

Several news sources have reported on what’s happening in Phoenix, Arizona at the public swimming pools. Life guards don’t have to know how to swim. The problem seems to be that the city used to recruit life guards from schools with swim teams. The better swimmers happen to be white. And, the kids in the pools are either Hispanic or black. Kelly Martinez, a city employee, says, "we don’t like that. The kids don’t relate; there’s language issues."

Evidently the city will spend thousands of dollars to recruit minorities, even if they are not strong swimmers. That means that 29 pools may have unqualified life guards, but they will be politically correct. The city official did mention to applicants, "we will work with you in your swimming abilities."

If this plan makes sense to you, you need to go to Phoenix and go swimming. Isn’t this like your house is on fire and when the fire trucks arrive you turn them back because the fire fighters are not the right race?

Exactly what language does a drowning person speak when their head goes under water? I don’t believe there are people that would jeopardize the lives of children just to be diverse.

Obviously I am wrong.
