The Columbus Dispatch - A recently controversial painting of Jesus that has hung in school hallways in Jackson since 1947 is coming down. Jackson City School officials believed that freedom of speech was on their side in defending against a law suit that asserted it was an unconstitutional endorsement of Christianity.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio and the Freedom From Religion Foundation representing the suing parents and student, are seeking legal fees as part of the lawsuit. Superintendent Phil Howard said that their insurance company had denied coverage in the matter and the school could not risk taxpayer money to fight the suit.
According to the story, the Hi-Y Club which owns the painting had displayed the painting in what is now the Jackson Middle School since 1947. The club recently asserted its right to move the painting and display it in the current high school.
So, there you are boys and girls. Another step by a single complainant to change what the majority want or are at least not offended by has taken away the right to do so.
The problem in getting older is that you see, if you pay attention, all the little pieces fall into place to form a nation that is contrary to what made this country great. And, you notice that it is more often than not, an attack on what is or was deemed good, or just made sense.
I can walk down any street in any town in this country and be offended by something or someone. Perhaps I should get with the ACLU and all the other anti-everything groups and start suing. After all, their sole purpose is to gather money to support their organizations. I think in this case, I’ll just let Jesus take care of it.
He just may take the student and parents pictures down in heaven.
