Motley Lotto

I do not know how many lotto games there are, but my guess is ‘a bunch.’ A recent Motley Fool article in the Dallas Morning News addressed lotto’s and the odds. I am a big fan of Motley Fool so I took notice.

It seems that math professor Tyler Jarvis has explained the California lottery with odds of about 1 in 18 million: "If you have to drive 10 miles to buy a ticket, you are three times more likely to be killed in an automobile accident on the way, than to win the jackpot."

It is also interesting to note that many lotteries, Texas included, market the games by promoting that the funds go to education. Lotteries are a tax on people that are really bad in math. Apparently they don’t use lotto money to teach math.

The Fool might agree, "a fool and his money are soon parted." I’d like to know how a fool got the money in the first place.

Probably from the government.
