Back in the really old days, I could go to the movies for a quarter. Today, even matinee prices are more than I used to spend on movies for a month. However, being a bean counter, I have discovered that I can get movies delivered to my mail box for about $10 per month. And, if I watch 8 movies per month, the cost is only $1.25. Not as good as the good old days, but it sure beats going out to a theater.
Yes, I know I don’t get the latest movies until sometimes a year later. That’s okay by me. Truth is, there are few, if any, movies worth going to see anyway. Most of the ones I wait a year for are not worth the wait.
But, every now and then, a movie comes along that amuses me. That’s hard to do; amuse a grumpy old man. Such was the case this week with a movie titled, "Bernie." Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine star in what just may be the funniest movie I’ve seen in awhile. It truly portrays some East Texas cultures.
Because I watch the movies at home, I do have to provide my own popcorn and Milk Duds. That’s okay, because those come out of the grocery budget.
Life is better with a movie for $1.25.
Now if I could just find gasoline for $1.00 per gallon.
